My 1995 1.4si Sport had the usual sloppy stirring porridge gear shift so when I dropped the gearbox to change the clutch I also overhauled the gear linkage bushes and ball joint bushes and fitted a steel link rod modification. when I gave the wife the car back she complained,(again) that the gear lever was rattling, buzzing at 100 to 130 kph in top and relative speed in the gears.
I removed the whole kit and caboodle and checked it all, the rubber O ring on the shift lever ball was broken so I replaced it and that tightened it up a bit, no other sloppy bits although I would have like to have removed a millimetre from each side of the side float but couldn't get the darn end caps off the cross bar.. Any ideas? The makers of the metal link bar say they haven't heard of anyone else having this problem nor do they have it on their car.

Re: gear lever buzing
Sorted it, needed rubber collars between ball joints and linage to stop viabration. Also managed to get end caps of gear shift cross bar and fitted a M5 washer and grease each side, made a huge difference.
