Corsa B 1.0L help - tried everything

Post by tooth_dr »

Hi guys

Apologies that my first post is one for help!

I've a 2000 Corsa B, 1.0 12V with 43000 miles. I bought it as a runabout, but as per usual I ended up fitting coilovers, new wheels, bigger brakes, exhaust, tinted lights, badgeless grill, etc etc lol.

On the way home from buying the car, on the motorway at about 70mph the MIL came on and she would not go above 70mph, felt like she was holding back. Any way read the forums, MAF seemed the most likely cause, but hard to be sure with out diagnostics.

So I plugged the car into my reader with VAUXCHECK and it said O2 sensor bank 1. Right oh - I went down bought a new one, fitted it, and guess what - car 100 times worse. So went back down to the motorfactors, and he said it is highlighting a fault with another sensor. Fair enough, given that the O2 and MAF are linked together.

Anyway ordered a new MAF meter online, fitted it and car slightly better but then MIL comes on again with loss of power. I re checked the problems with VAUXCHECK - this time idle control valve.

SOOOO I bought a new ICV and fitted it, and immediately the car was driving better... but then yet again the same symptoms a few miles into the journey. Do you need to 'reset' the ICV? I wound it fully in as per guides online. She idles ok.

I checked the manifold - it is not cracked.

Things I've noticed that might help diagnose problem:

1) The MIL comes on usually about 2-3 miles into journey, as engine warms, never on cold starts
2) The temp gauge never goes above 90oC, always a couple of degree below
3) The engine sounds very tickety/rattley after a long journey of 50+ miles, sounds normal on startup and shorter journeys.

The car has a full service history, one owner, well looked after, not raked about as was one older lady owner. I'm at a bit of a loss TBH.

It's got to the point where I bought a 2.0 16v engine to put into it, but I really want to have the 12v running right as I want to use it for a few more months then take it off the road in the winter to do the conversion in the garage. She just MOT'd last weekend for a year without doing anything to it.

Any further suggestions?

my friend had the same problem, in the end he found that his crank sensor and EGR valve were both faulty which was causing his car to lose power. but his engine is only a 3 cylinder 1.0l but just a lead for you :)

Cheers. Mine a 3cyl too, 4 valves per cylinder. I might try those, but egr valve would show up on diagnostic check maybe?

it did with my friends but the EGR doesnt serve any purpose, so many people just blank them off.
