Hey, sorry i havnt updated in a while, been busy. finally got the sticky foam of the side of the car today to fins that the paint underneath is kinda discoloured which can sorta c in the pic
I agree, i looks better without the strips.

Will give it a polish tomorro to c it that helps get the colour bak.
Also thout id put a pic of the engine, cant tell from the pic but the inlet is actually polished up to near chrome finish, still some pitting to get out but is a work in progress.

to get the glue off your supposed to use a toffee wheel, and to get the colour back on my arden blue i used a heat gun and gently heated the paint and the water molecules that have gotten into the top coat of the laquer just evaporate away :)

cheers man, dunno if the wheels will stay on long as theyr polished faces, altho they r lacquered they r a bit corroded and dont want them to get worse befor i sort them out properly, got some astra 6 spoke alloys that i can use in the mean time.

So its actually water in the paint that discoloures it, weird. Wont the heat gun burn the paint?

Well. over the past week the idle and over run has been playing up a bit so thought id change the idle control valve at some point. turns out that a guy my dad works with (josh, cheers man) had a spare one so today i thought id just pop it on. how wrong i was. After taking out the SAI pump, the battery, the upper inlet manifold, the expansion tank and moving countless other things out the way. iv found that the bolts for the idle control valve have already been rounded off a bit and i cant get it off in it current position. so im thinkin if i take off the throttle body i should be able to get a better go at the bolts. What a pain in the arse.

Also, i invested in a toffee wheel and got off the rest of the sticky foam stuff, altho heating up the discoloured paint underneath didnt work so will have to have a go with the t-cut soon. bought some 2L calibra callipers on ebay the other day, will put up a pick when they get here.

Right, i finally got the throttle body off today and found it quite oily, so gave it a good clean. The idle control valve was an absolute tw*t to get off, both bolts had been previously rounded off so i ended up cutting a slot into the top of the nut and using a screw driver to get them off, not the best way i know but it will have to do.
Throttle body is back in the car now and will sort out the rest of the stuff tomorrow, heres wat the throttle body looked like before cleaning, wat u can see was all gungy and sticky oil, the inside of the induction pipe was the same.

Finally got the car back together today and has worked a treat, runs lovely and smooth now and the idle is stable and smooth too. Gave the cooling system a flush through too cos all the water was rusty and the there was a big rusty build up in the expansion tank; all cleaned and with fresh antifreeze the engine runs cooler too :). Do need to go to the scrappy tomorro tho to get a small rubber pipe that connects to the sensor on the side of the inlet as my one is split.
I was gona leave the SIA pump off the car but when i fired it up the valve thing on the manifold was making a hell of a racket, was actually sucking in air constantly as it was jammed open. My dads gona make up a little blanking plate at his work so i'll be able to take off the whole lot in the next couple of days.

when you do get one, super glue that thing into place, i drove to a supermarket one day and when i came back i noticed it had fallen out of its slot lucky no one stole it ( fell into the car, not onto the road ) but i didnt know if someone tried to take it or if it had just fallen in due to vibrations.
