Poor engine running
Hello, I drive a corsa b 3dr (X14xe).
I'm new to the forums and I need help, my car has the following problems;
Rough (shaky) idle but at normal 800-1000 rpm,
Whilst driving down the road 'dead spots' happen ranging from about 2-15 seconds, these happen sort of every 30 seconds.
When I disingage the clutch (foot down), and I was in high revs (2500+) the revs drop to 200 before coming back to 800.
No eml, spark plugs and leads replaced.
I think it's worse with less fuel in my tank but that might just be in my head haha.
Anything to help me will be most Appreciated.
Thank you,
Ryan.

Re: Poor engine running
it sounds like the maf sensor.... have you changed the standard filter and box with a cone/aftermarket filter?? these can cause the issue your discribing. i had something similar on my sxi when i put a cone filter on, i took the maf sensor off and cleaned it with carb cleaner, been ok since apart from the odd flat spot due to still using the cone filter. hope this helps!!

Hiya, I did think that but I was told this particular egine didn't have a MAF but instead a Intake Air Temperature sensor. I've checked the connection for the IAT anyway and it looked clean so I took no further action.

Re: Poor engine running
14xe doesnt have a maf , I'd be looking at the icv or blanking the egr but tbh symptons are all common to several faults lol
If it doesn't fit,
force it,
If it breaks,
It needed replacing anyway

Re: Poor engine running
Icv - idle control valve, disconect it while car is running and see if it makes a difference a blanking plate is only a couple quid off ebay anyway so worth doing anyway

Re: Poor engine running
Was looking into blanking the egr valve but I filled up my car earlier and it defiantly dose make a big diffrence. With a full tank the symptoms are Practically non existent. This is making me feel like its a pump problem.

Haha, well it was serviced a year and a bit ago, however in January after my mot I myself changed air filter, oil and the plugs were done a month ago when I started having the problems. I never changed the fuel filter and completely forgot about the oil filter :s.
P.s. fuel pump on order, secondhand and only £15

Re: Poor engine running
Oil filter should always be changed as there paper, i would give the oil filter a cheeck and make sure its not in pieces going round the engine which would not be good haha and give the fuel filter a change too

Re: Poor engine running
Ok will do, can I change the oil filter without draining the oil? Or will it pour out everywhere? And same goes for the fuel filter.

Re: Poor engine running
Na youl need to drain the oil but you can pour it back in if its still good and a small bit of fuel will come out put it wont empty the tank though its just a small bit in the line and filter

Re: Poor engine running
Wow, ok so the pump I ordered came. I replaced the fuel filter and car started worked the same as before, then I replaced the fuel pump yesterday and whilst driving up the road with a max speed of about 10mph it backfired like crazy! I disconnected battery and waiting while I had a fag then started her again. This didnt do anything. I ran it for a while to 'get the air out' which didn't change anything.
When I push in the Scaerader valve on the fuel rail whilst ignition on nothing comes out of it, with engine started there is a little dribble. No fuses in my fuse box are blown, I swapped the fuel relay with another 12v 30amp relay i found in the engine bay, which didnt do anything either.

Re: Poor engine running
Ok massive brain wave, I'm thinking there's a split or the suction pipe on the regulator has fallen off? Ruff idle, low fuel pressure, irratic throttle and misfiring?
