Exhaust hitting rear axle:(

Post by Paul666 »

Hi needing help with this one guys. I know there are other similar threads but i cant find anything relevant. I changed my exhaust mid and back box 2 weeks back the banging on rear axle was ridiculas till i twisted the exhast as far as i could. But it still does it when going over bumps etc especially with people in back seat. I cant seem to get it any higher tho to put it out the way. Is there anything i can do to put it up higher smaller rubber hangers etc. Not really wanna go down zip tien em up as MOT is thu:( thanks in advance.

Also my new mid section is slightly different to the old. Got it from euro car parts so not genuine vauxhall.

What you could do is on your hanger rubbers put the pins thought the top and middle hole, not top and bottom, that will give you a little lift, other than that theirs not a lot you can do

thanks buddy was thinking bout trien that i asked in the local parts store and asked if i can buy smaller rubber hangers and they looked at me like i was asking for moon dust:) going to put zip ties around all four rubber hangers that are on at the minute and zip em up tight so that the exhaust sits bout an extra inch up:) the only thing i am worried about is if this would be a MOT fail as my MOT is due on thursday:///

its a very common fault on the corsa's when i was at kwink fit we warmed up the hangers an bent them down too give the exhaust more clearance and non genuine parts are not a problem we always told customers to come back in a month or too so we could re adjust the exhaust system due too the knocking due too weight or bumps just have a go an wiggle it you will get there :)

because im so low i have a right game with this and bumps...the best way to go about it is to buy a custom exhaust. last one i had was from john ashleys and they basically bent it over the rear axle but higher than a standard exhaust so its closer to the body..

basically its when the car is too low. the exhaust is attached to the body, the body is lowered down to the rear beam, and because its so close it knocks,
mines fairly low now that theres hardley a gap between the exhaust and body

Exhaust hitting rear axle:(

When ur fitting the back box clamps to the middle section make sure u push I up away from the rear axle and keep it pushed there while u tighten the clamps also make sure the clamp isnt pointed down the the axle hav them pointed across the car or the clamp will hit on the axle cuz mine used to rattle on the axle but I never hav a problem now and my corsa is lowered about 100mm all round on small wheels. Hope that helps :)

hey guys, i had to replace my exhaust rubbers with so i used powerflex ones, there made of harder rubber and the box doesnt jiggle around as much anymore, they were a bit of a bitch to get on cause the old hangers were rusted and the new rubbers were tight... but nothing a bit of fairy liquid didnt sort out, i aint had any problems since and mines been lowered 40mm
if its that big a problem id give it a try xD

most people cable tie a rubber strip around the rear axle, as others have said its a common problem on corsas, i found some smaller exhaust rubbers in a scrap yard that the owner let me have, im not 100% but i think they was from a ford focus. powerflex do some really small and stiff rubbers that might help.

Its 7 months old id say he sorted it
If it doesn't fit,
force it,
If it breaks,
It needed replacing anyway
