Advice on first Corsa

Post by daryl »

Hi,

My brother in law has just passed his test and asked me to help him find a Corsa B as I know a bit about cars.

He did have a 1.4 lupo sport, that he had whilst learning but it failed its MOT and the engine is shot.

So we are on the hunt for a Corsa B, i'd say a 1.4 engine is the biggest he could afford to insure.

What I was after from you guys was some general info, e.g:

- are any of the engines weaker than the others and worth avoiding?
- what faults are common and worth looking for?
- what are they worth these days?

You get the idea.

I've been to look at 4 of the 1.0's so far, but all had blown head gaskets. Is this a common problem with the 1.0? Or is it just that they are old cars now?

Thanks,
Daryl

Hello and welcome :) when looking make sure you have a good luck underneath! The 1.4 16v engine is decent! It's what I am going for next. Really all you have to look out for is high mileage, gunk under the oil cap, and lumpy idle... I can't think of much more to be honest! I'm sure other people on here might have a few more things to share :)

None are really weak as such but all have common problems

1.0 is slow as poo but is.good and relible bar the maf icv and crankshaft neither are dear to replace or hard to do

The 1.2 is the same with more power

The 1.4 is fairly high powerd and quick but crankshaftt and labada sensors tend to give up, egr is a problem as well but it can just be blanked
If it doesn't fit,
force it,
If it breaks,
It needed replacing anyway
