Safe mode on CD player

Post by Rcb »

Hi all, firstly apologies if this is in the wrong place but I've let this safe mode get to me and it's winding me up!

Before I start I'd be really really grateful for any help! :D

I've purchased a runaround, 1.2 8 valve, 5 door, 1997 GLS Corsa! The car had stood still without being touched for 5 years so the inevitable had happened, the battery had gone flat. New battery in and it's running fine, tyres will be replaced in due course as they have obviously been squared off!

Due to the battery going flat, the radio/cassette in the car has stopped working and just shows up safe mode. Obviously this unit isn't the latest in ICE but it's a cheap run around so I can keep my other car for weekend use and trundle about in this saving the fuel :D so as long a the radio works so I have something other than the Asthmatic engine to listen to I'll be happy.

I've had a google and looked around on this site too, it states something along the lines of turn the ignition/engine on, press and hold the power button on the unit and press the "AS" button as the same time until it beeps. This bit is fine. The next bit is the problem. My code is (I have it wrote down downstairs) but something along the lines of 7149, how do I enter the 7 and the 9 into the radio when it only has numbers 1-6?

Any help would be so appreciated!

Thanks in advance

Ryan :)

Sorry to sound stupid but..press 1 seven times for 7?

So are you saying that in effect, if the code was 7149 it'd be the following:

First number (in this case 7) press 1 seven times
Second number (in this case 1) press 2 one time
Third number (in this case 4) press 3 four times
Fourth number (in this case 9) press 4 nine times?

Would that be correct? If so I will try this first thing tomorrow morning!
