Guide to: make D.I.Y smoked Depos

Post by johnny »

Tools needed:
-hammer
-Stanley knife
-source of heat: oven/Blow torch
-silicone
-paint, sandpaper
- and two pairs of headlights

Image
i used a blowtorch but its very messy so wear gloves
Image
Image

How to:

1.)get your torch or throw the lights in the oven till the plastic part is soft, take your stanley and start cutting like so:
Image

keep heating and cutting till you can prise the glass away like so
Image

you will end up with something like this
Image

keep trimming it down till you can remove all the the plastic and old glue,

the silver part is what your after but if you damage it just take care on your second set
Image

2.) give your silver insert a quick sand down just to remove the shinny-ness off it and spray the colour of your choice

I only had blue to hand so mine looked like
Image

3.) while you wait for thepaint to dry grab your hammer and smash the glass of your second set
Image

while taking care not to cut your self remove the rest of the glass by twisting/lifting it out
Image

give the insert a second coat if your not happy with it but if you are then your ready to make your new light

so aline your insert with the slots in the plastic

silicone around the mould where the old glue is and place your light in place,

since i didn't want a blue depo i didnt silicone mine but you should end up with this
Image

takes around half an hour to make one light so leave a couple hours in case you have bother

Hope it helps and any questions just ask :)
If it doesn't fit,
force it,
If it breaks,
It needed replacing anyway

Some people remove the orange part for the indicators, if you do this you will need orange bulbs. Good tutorial

Or you can use chrome colours indicator bulbs to completely get rid of the orange look! :) also this is exactly how I did mine, accept I used a heat gun and a screwdriver to remove all the old glue from the backing on the light. Just to give it a deeper space for the new sealent + light to sit into

It would look daft without that orange bit unless you leavevthe frosted bit in would it not,

I like the orange part as it puts a bit of colour to the front
