Corsa SRI - Limits at 5/6 revs.

Post by NickDawes »

Recently my car has started actin up, it is reaching around 5/6000 revs and sticking there! in all gears, it just reaches a certain point and wont go any further until i change gear, then it does it again in that gear.

also, i hav noticed a whistling noise when i put my foot on the accelorator? any suggestions would b really helpful.

i plan on taking it to the garage tomoro, i just dont want to get stung with a load of b/s.

idle control valve rings a bell, my car (which will from here on be referred to as \'the shed\') sometimes cuts out when i dip the clutch. ive been told this is due to the idling control valve not working properly.

is this problem something that needs to be seen to immediatly?

the stalling can probs be fixed just by spraying \'carb cleaner\' into the butterfly of the idle control valve, (i\'ll look for a photo) i get that problem alot since ive had an induction kit.

should get the stepper motor changed out mate, it cant be good reving the engine up all the time

So you mean it won\'t rev past 5-6000rpm when you are accelerating?
on a 1.4 the ICV is located on the side of the TB, which is located on the back left side of the engine bay, trace back from the airbox, it\'s the bit the throttle cable attaches to. on the back of it there is a black thing abut the size of a 50p with a pulg in it, quite wide and flat. it\'s got start bolts holding it on.
unplug it, then undo the bolts.
remove it and clean it with carb cleaner, then lube it with some WD40. in the hole in the throttle clean that with carb cleaner too. then put it back together.

If the rev\'s won\'t climb past 5-6k when you are acceling then, you may need to check the HT leads, and I found a dosgey one caused this symptom on mine, get a multimeter you should get no high than 3kOhms on any lead.
