Oil filter housing/tube

Is it normal for the oil filter tube to still have some oil left in it after draining from the sump? Or could mine be blocked? I removed the filter and looked down into the hole and was surprised to see the oil hadn't drained... Not sure if this is normal?

To be honest mate every oil filter i ave done has had oil still in it so i wouldn't worry to much. As long as it has drained out of the engine it should be all good. Are ya sending engine cleaner through it before new oil goes in or not bothering
Also remember to give the new filter a light coating around the seal from the old oil aswell

They all hold oil as the port doesnt open until the engine is running

You dont put oil on the paper filter andy is talking about the filters on the 8v

I left it half an hour to drain all the old oil out (warmed it up first), so there shouldn't be anything left in the engine. I have the 1.2 16V X12XE... All i did was put some oil on the new rubber seal/ring for the filter housing. I was advised not to use an engine flushing detergent, but the old oil did have some "Wynn's hydraulic valve lifter treatment" mixed in with it.

That's good to hear! I was starting to think i still had bits of old filter lodged in the bottom of the oil well/tube. Mine definitely uses a paper cartridge type filter... Not sure if that's a good thing though .

Paper filter are good its just cheap brands make them seem less functional, but just change every 5000 miles thats when the oil will have lost near all it lubricating propertys so both types of oil filter have to be changed at the same time

I should have taken a picture of the filter i pulled out earlier... Had done around 1200 miles and it was a mess! I managed to uncover the print and it was made by Fram... I always thought Fram were an ok brand? I'm not even sure if it was meant for my engine as it looked a bit squashed! The filter before that was a Mann and it disintegrated (even the bottom plastic part broke up!).

The cheap ones are so bad lol we had a 98 astra a couple months back, at first thought it didnt have a filter then i was picking bits of filter out of the housing for about 2 hours
