Broken transmission housing?
Hi all!
I hit a rather large pothole which bottomed out the car, hitting the underside quite hard.
There IS an engine/sump guard, and this saved me from bigger damage, but the bit that broke was where one of the hoes are cut out in the guard.
No oil leaks or anything. Also drove the car back home about 300 miles without any issues with shifting our anything else.
Can anybody tell me what needs to be done?
Attaching a picture of the damage which is the best I could manageat the moment.
This is what looks like the bottom of the bell housing. It's bottom right side of the engine on a right hand drive vehicle, when viewing the car from the front. (Damage is on the passenger side)

No picture in that post but.if its cracked it needs replaced, but if its not loseing oil, its fine for now but a crack will always get bigger no matter where it is
If it doesn't fit,
force it,
If it breaks,
It needed replacing anyway

Re: Broken transmission housing?
Managed to Google a pic of the part to make things clearer. The bit circled in red is the bit that has broken off. About four inches of it.. So, experts, please let me know if the thingy needs changing, or can I just try and rebuild just that bit with some kind of putty or something? The Garage has asked for the equivalent of £400.00 to fix this, and that's a LOT of money for me...

@Johnny - thanks mate, no offence meant, just wanted to be sure I was giving you the right description. You've set my mind at rest now, much appreciated. Also goes to show why this forum is held in such high regard.

Re: Broken transmission housing?
Sorry for late reply to this thread folks reading what has been written o would agree with johnny but Imo i would replace it when u got the money because it will only hold for so long considering it is the bottom of the gear box as johnny says tho it aint leaking there's no problem
If it ain't green and black send it back

Righto! I hear you.. Will save up for the change. Know a friend who does aluminum welding, so will try a hand at that before I pony up at the garage..
