Car stalls on Idle, Stopping, Gear-Down

Post by Quin »

Hi

I've had a N-Reg 1.4 petrol Corsa for six months now.

For the past month or two, I noticed it cut out whenever I put my foot down. I fixed this by getting a new throttle body/fuel injector, as it was running on a 1.2 version and not the 1.4.

When that was being done, the MAP Sensor was broken. It has since been replaced, but now, I get the issues of stalling whenever I lose the revs; bringing the clutch up jerks it into life, and pressing the accelerate down eventually brings it round, but I want to know what is the problem.

The paper-clip diagnostic tells me it is Code 33 (before it was 33 and 35, but I reset the ECU with the battery method, which removed the 35).

Either way, it does seem to be the MAP Sensor; any ideas?

Hi and welcome buddy possibly could be the crank sensor that is the culprit or the egr valve reading up on the net people with simular symptoms have put it down to the crank sensor
If it ain't green and black send it back :D

Hi, thanks for the reply.

How could either of those things be the culprit? I don't even know what they are, or what they do, but I know that this problem seemed to have happened because the MAP sensor was broken (so they seem unrelated, whereas Map seems to be the culprit); but I'm new to this game.

It also only seems to happen when the check engine light (whatever that is called) comes on, which comes on randomly (sometimes a short while, sometimes several minutes) but once its on, I will stall.

Icv- idle control valve, its code 35 and what you said about stalling when lights comes on and goes fine when out points to the icv, it causes problems when you clutch especially because its searching for the right idle speed,

If you go out now and start the car and leave it idle and dont rev atall the light will go in around 5 mins but wont stall, if you coyld confirm this its def the icv
If it doesn't fit,
force it,
If it breaks,
It needed replacing anyway

I don't have code 35 anymore, but I'm not ruling that out.

I've left my car to idle a few times, and it does cut out eventually.

Whilst driving, the light comes on after I slow down (for instance a junction), which was the example from today.
Also, slipping into first and quickly dipping the clutch turned off the light (two more examples from today).

If it were the ICV, is that the thing which allows fuel through, on some it is a screw?

Well, I couldn't find my engine code, though TBH, I didn't look through all the docs.
However, Euro Car Parts spat out a couple of MAP Sensors - I take it that it matters what MAP Sensor is installed then?

The MAP was second hand, and I'm not too sure if it is the right one.
The ICV needs cleaning, tweeking, replacing.

Seemed to have fixed the problem - the hose for the MAP sensor was broke.
