3 cyl piston ring replacement

Post by geoff »

Hi all
Has anyone replaced the piston rings on the 3 cyl engine?
Of course I am not expecting a "blow by blow" review here - but can anyone offer any basic advice? - like is it engine out or can it be done in situe?
Any special things to watch out for, or special tools etc. ?
Any advice is most welcome
regards
geoff

Tbh honest you can do this either way all ya need do is split the block apart and disconnect any appropriate sensors. But you will need to replace all gaskets when reassembling.
If it ain't green and black send it back :D

thanks for that. I am reasonably competent so it should be ok;
one further question - this car has air con - which is in need of regassing- does this make the job anymore difficult?
cheers

thanks for that.
do you know if there is a woorkshop manual for that engine - seems the Haynes only covers the four cyl engines.
By the way, there seems to be some confusion on the inet over which japanese car this engine comes from. do you know for sure?
I love the car and this engine, It perfoms so well for a 1L and the fuel comsumption is great.

The engine is made by the germans, not japan

Ie piston rings, its a complete engine dismantle job, by the time you can get the rings out more of the engine will be out around you than in the bay, i highly recommend you go to a garage or have a mechanic mate with you when doing it, its not an.easy job if you havnt done it before
If it doesn't fit,
force it,
If it breaks,
It needed replacing anyway

The only car that had a copy was the fire fiesta and mazda but the only jap that springs up is the Nissan micra has a 1 litre 12 valve engine
