Failed MOT on emissions.

Post by Neilc524 »

Sorry if this has been asked before.

My S reg corsa 1.0 has failed the MOT on emissions. I have replaced the centre and rear exhaust sections. Serviced it before the MOT (air filter, oil spark plugs etc) and also put a bottle of cat clean through the system.

I am hoping that something small or simple will fix this! as I don't want to spend more than the car is worth! As i have already spent close to £200 on it to get it to this point!

it only fails on the fast idle test the results are:

Second fast idle test
Engine speed manual check= pass 2750 3250
CO =2.01 %vol fail 0.30
HC =166 ppm pass 200
Lambda = 0.941 fail 0.970 1.030

These are just number to me so any help is much appreciated!

Thats so high, try flush the engine get a new lambada and some wynns stop smoke,
If it doesn't fit,
force it,
If it breaks,
It needed replacing anyway :thumbs:

I tried the cat clean after the initial test, and the reading are still the same. How difficult is a lambda sensor replacement? I'm not massively experienced on cars (managed the service and exhaust replacements on my own)
what do you mean by flushing the engine?

Lambada is just screw out.the.old and in the new

Engine flush cleans out any gunk in the engine, and the stop smoke thickens the oil at temp to keep co2 down

force it,
If it breaks,
It needed replacing anyway :thumbs:

Thanks for the help, will try both.

I've read a little on lambda sensors it does point to the high emissions, so fingers crossed.

I probably know the answer to this question but: I have just been and looked at the car and found the lambda sensor loose, not tight into the exhaust, could this be causing the problem?
