1.6 Sport, Model Selection on Ebay (Gsi?)

Post by GT250 »

hi, new here.

so i have a 2000 1.6 16v Sport, i need to buy a few bits for the car and having issues searching on ebay.

on ebay you can add a make/model of car to your 'garage' and then check compatability when viewing items, or simply view a list of applicable models.

i'm having problems identifying my car, for the year 2000 i have the option of "1.6 16v" and "1.6 16v Gsi" and the majority of parts im after are different for each.

here i'm confused, from my understanding the Gsi was discontinued in 1995 and replaced by the "Sport", but then i thought all 1.6/16v would be "Sport" models when listed as 97-00

anyone know which option would apply?

Hi and welcome buddy u are right on the models but most list them like that so they can have a larger range of buyers and there listings go into more than one category but there are other sites u can get the parts u want as well

Some sellers on eBay put the gsi name on everything to try sell more,

And eBay isn't the place to check comparability

Try www.Micksgarage.co.uk on that site you type in your reg and pick the part and they get the right one, try use car parts websites if your not sure because eBay can be dodgy as comparability varys from seller to seller

Hi, thanks for replies.

it isn't so much an issue with sellers or their listings, it's ebay itself that has implemented the option to 'save' your car details, this is where the confusion starts as there are 2 options listed for a 2000 1.6/16v (Gsi or non-Gsi)

some items have a generic title eg, "new replacement rear silencer" then relies on a table of compatible models, but again this uses the same list, so for 2000 there are 2 choices - Gsi or non-Gsi, and the parts will fit one or other, not both.

it would be a useful feature if i knew which choice applies to a 1.6 Sport.

i'm interested in item 190859111446, anyone know if it's suitable?

Yes but there is no gsi which is the real problem and the exhaust is the same for every corsa bar the 1.0 so yes it fits

"the exhaust is the same for every corsa"

i accept that any exhaust could fit, but i can see many 1.2/1.4 have a straight little pee-shooter outlet, whereas on mine it's shaped to fit a cutout in the rear bumper, and has an oval/slash-cut outlet, i believe this is the OEM backbox and would like the same again.

thanks for replies, guess i will have to pay the extra and get it from my local motor factor, nearly double the cost but at least i can guarantee it's what i want.

hi, indeed the oval outlet is a cover, but it's welded onto the exhaust, it's not like it can be removed and refitted, and as mentioned the outlet pipe bends in an S fashion, maybe brings it an inch further towards the middle of the car.

have just looked on eurparts, 2 backbox's are listed, not sure how they differ but both cost more than my local supplier.

thanks for your input, gonna forget buying online, at least for the exhaust.

did perhaps Opel continue with the Gsi while Vauxhall changed to the "Sport"

have looked under the car at the make of the current backbox, it's "Bosal"

looked it up on the Bosal site, and just to add to my confusion, they list it as being for a Gsi 97-00

will see what i'm offered at my local store, as long as it looks similar i'll be happy.

You misunderstood what I ment, the one you posted on ebay fits, yes the sport came with a different tail pipe but it shows on the add on had it, what I was saying it doesn't matter if they say it fits a gsi but not or a sport or vice versa, it will fit if it's a gm product because if it fits one it fits all corsas, pipe and box size are the same as is the hanger position,

This http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.vi ... 0859111446 fits is what I'm saying and it's what your looking for

Opel continued the gsi name in some country's as sport didn't test as well in sales but it was still a sport not a gsi, this is what I was referring to in my first post about sellers just slapping the gsi name on it so they can sell to people who take pride in having "gsi" parts when they are only making it awkward

thanks for your further postings, i see what you meant now.

although that backbox appears ok, for some reason if i choose my saved car as "1.6/16v Gsi" it then tells me it's not suitable, the seller has another exhaust which does fit the Gsi, and has a different part number.

so;

2000 1.6/16v - part No GM392B, length 750mm, £23

2000 1.6/16v Gsi - part No GM232K, length 740mm, £23.94 (item 190859101068)

anyone know how to reference the GM part number to model? i'm sure either might be suitable (even though they are listed as incompatible with each other) but would like to understand what items do apply to my car.

ive found a site which as well as listing the GMxxx gives alternate numbers, which may allow me to find a the bosal part num on my exhaust and then confirm which is which.

http://limru.com/autoparts/glushitel/GM392B/ and http://limru.com/autoparts/glushitel/GM232K/

apologies if i've been a pain, but if i get it from ebay i can afford to replace both rear and middle, for the price of just the backbox if i buy local.

will PM reg number if i can't puzzle it out, thanks for your help.

i will now have a look through the forum, or start a new thread, on the pros and cons of a straight-thru middle pipe vs standard silencer.
