MOT Failure

Post by BigBenson14 »

Hi all, just looking for some advice really,

Took my Corsa in for its MOT today, it failed on its parking brake (cables frayed, offside rear brake binding, and basically doesn't work at all) and it's front nearside CV gator is split.

I've ordered two new rear brake cables and the cv gator this evening from a local dealer and i plan on collecting and fitting tomorrow, basically has anyone got any advice for me? I think i kind of know how i'm gonna' go about doing it but i'm not 100% sure.

Regards

Connor

Right to do the hand brake on the car u will need a pair ov mole grips and a 11mm spanner to disconnect the rite side cable from the car which is connected under neath the car on what looks like a tube with bolt attached to it. Once that's done take the little cover off which is in the centre of the drum. U will find a bolt with notches all round and a pin which goes thru the middle carefully remove the pin u will need to bend it so its straight and pull it out with some needle nose pliers. Once that's out the nut will undo. Remove the drum which might need some persuasion which i used a rubber mallet and hit it not to hard around the drum to break the rust seal. This may take a few attempts so don't worry. Once off u will see the shoe assembly and the cable going to the bottom of the right shoe. Use a screw driver to move the arm to remove the cable. Trace the cable to the exit hoke there will be a holder clip remove that and the cable will just slide out give it a tug once out from the clip which holds it on. To replace just do the reverse to what has been put but replace both sides first. The left side now. Trace the cable under the car and u will find a heat shield. U will see a gap and it connects on what looks like a s clip with a stopper in the middle take the stop out and remove the cable which u need to feed it to the middle of the clip. To remove from rear drum is the same as the right side. Before refitting new left cable u will need to remove sleeve from old cable which will need slight persuasion keep that sleeve as it will be reused on the new cable once u have reconnected everything in its place rescrew the right cable to the nut on the sleeve and there u go two cable replacement any problems mate let us know
