Get it plugged into a diagnostic machine, the data should point to what the problem is

Been there, done that. Mate KIki and I spend 2 hours with a lap top and a CO gas analyzer and still very high.
CO (1st test readings) tick over 5.66% (7.82%) and @ 2.000 6.7% (12.15%) Lambda 0.835 (0.685)
No fault codes.
No abnormal readings from ECU.
Plug colour nice tan.
Cam timing check OK.
ATS changed for S/H proven one, still the same. :-x
ECU removed and opened, :-o (Delco BFZN 16163449 Blue Chip) no corrosion or bad wires.
Wiring loom check, all OK.
base voltage on TPS is 0.42v exactly.
No sign of over fueling.
No smoke or sooty smell
Runs perfectly up to limiter in each gear (apart from top of course)
No smell of petrol
Small blow in exhaust joint fixed.

Still the same! RTFM etc :coffee: tried all the fiddles,We are stumped! :(

Can your mate read the live data while driving? It's definitely the next thing I'd be checking

You'll need opcom to read the live data but bar that I'm absolutely confused as to why it's not running off or rough or doing something to indicate a problem, if it's over fueling it'd be dumping the petrol into the exhaust which would cause backfire
If it doesn't fit,
force it,
If it breaks,
It needed replacing anyway

Johnny, it is one of those things where one has seen it before  or one is totally confused by it :? . where the hell nearly double the petrol is going without burning it is beyond psychics and computer read outs. getting 'live' readings whilst driving would be an idea IF we could get the damn thing even close whilst static. Why is the ATS code coming up after ten minuets and then clears when ignition is off and is OK for as long as you ike in the garage but ten minutes on the road up it comes again, on the THIRD, ATS so I think we can eliminate that as the last one was from a working car with no problems and the earth and ECU voltage (about 5.6V) is OK. The information from those early 10 pin connectors is basic to say the least.
I have a Gunson colortune on the way (need it for my Stage 3 VW engine anyway) so I can see what the combustion burn is in real time, if it is a nice blue, well, even more confusion.

A live reading can usually spot things a static reading will miss so that's my only reason for suggesting it

I think it's just pure trial and error at this stage, have you done a compression test, I don't think it will help but you'd never know what it could indicate
If it doesn't fit,
force it,
If it breaks,
It needed replacing anyway

Had skimmed and all new at top end, in fact the only thing this engine has not had is big ends and rings as it doesn't knock and doesn't use oil, well just a sip. 1 L every 4K of motorway and town driving
Replacement ECU correct number etc on way and two new bonnet bumpers stops, well you never know

It's weird that we are hoping the test fails

ECU changed and the air temp sender code no longer comes on after 5 minuets so that is cleared. New Oxy sensor fitted and connector (waterproof upgrade, and readings are now down to just on 1.0, so I have made a new appointment for an ITV on the 18th and here is hoping.

After a bit of 'Italian tuning' by the tester it passed at 0.48. thanks for the advice on here. it helps, if only to keep my spirits up.
