Colour coding and smoothing bumpers

Post by andy w »

So thought id do a thread to help any one who wants to get the smooth bumper look with out the crease. So to start you will need the following:-

Bumper filler(bumper soft or simular)
Plastic primer
Colour matched paint to which ever colour ya car is
Wet and dry paper (i would go for a medium and a light for finnishing)
Pre paint or white spirits

So to start you will need to get rid of all the little knobbly parts on the bumper and the crease. Once its been all smoothed use your plastics filler mix the same as standard filler. Build up the layers in the crease. In between layers smooth what ya have filled once its dried. Once you have built enough layers to make it level with the top of the crease smooth to a flat finnish i would use a sanding block to get an even finnish. If your bumper is already colour code below the original crease mark lightly sand to take the lacquer off. Clean the surface with white spirits or pre paint to get rid of any dust which is lying on the surface. Use the plastics primer lightly to build coats and lightly smooth the layers u spray until you have about 4-6 coats. Once all is dry you can then add the colour of your choosing and follow the same process as the primer and then i would say after 24 hours add the lacquer layers but make sure its not to hot or cold when you do this or it wont work correctly.
I hope this helps any folks who wishes to do this mod to there car as it transforms the look of the front and rear bumpers
If it ain't green and black send it back :D

So prices for this would cost in the region of £30 depends on how much ya get the materials for

Is it simple enough for a beginner? Only things Iv painted are interior trims and calipers
