You are right of course. Let me apologise again. I have been following the project ever since I got my T reg corsa b 1999 1.2 16v with x12xe engine a few months ago and even though there are alot (and I mean alot) of things wrong with it, I think a bit of the enthusiasm that the OP shows for his car has rubbed off on me. As a thank you, I have been looking into the query of the diagnostics tool for his vehicle (and therefore mine) and whether this particular corsa b has an OBD OR OBD2 socket. I noticed that he was advised that it was neither, which i think is incorrect. After much searching and confusion here is what I have found:
The main difference between OBD(1) AND OBD2 was that OBD (on board diagnostics) was not standardised before 1996. Manufacturers had their own types of socket and could locate them wherever they wanted. I am sure you can imagine the confusion and headache this caused mechanics. Even when they tried to make an industry standard, their first attempt (OBD1) wasn't all that good. Connectors were different and caused major headache when diagnosing as they were all different sizes even though they had 10 pins. With regards to GM they used their own proprietary version of OBD1 and called it ALDL. This was a 10 pin connector.(They also had 5, pin, 9 pin and 12 pin versions ). In 1996, in America, they along with everyone else adopted an industry standard called OBD2 with 16 pins. The EU equivalent of OBD2 is EOBD and was implemented in 2001. Even though, it was adopted later in the EU, I think all GM cars still had the OBD2 ports after 1996.
Vauxhall or GM refers to their OBD2 socket or port as a j1962 - 16 pin connector as per this document:

shows that J1962 is an OBD2 connector. In another article on this forum it indicates it as a Simtec 56.5 16 pin connector (however, I can't find anything relevant with regards to Simtec) but the said thread does show the ALDL CONNECTOR:

On other corsa forums it mentions that it may be an OBD1.5 which GM did partially implement upto 1996. However in this case, a 99 plate, this is highly unlikely. OBD2 was already in place in 1996, 3 years prior to scorpiotn1's car.
Yet another forum (http://www.allcorsa.co.uk/forums/showth ... 40216.html) mentions it as a TECH 2 connector
In the wikipedia article it mentions that OBD2 came in two models OBD2A & OBD2B. Again, I think this is incorrect since the only references I can find to these and their pin layouts refers to HONDAS on HONDA FORUMS.
Finally, here's a couple of videos showing you the £30 cheap and cheerful laptop diagnostics method which looks like it will work.

In conclusion the socket for your particular car is an OBD2 socket and should work fine with the op com tools. I have asked a couple of them to confirm if it will work and will hopefully let you know when they get back to me.

Update:
Had a reply back from Dominator diagnostics (bavariandominator from the vid) and they confirmed that their £30 kit will work with your corsa.
They also trade as diagnostic-world.com.
For anybody with corsa b prior to 1999 with a 10 pin port have a look at this adapter for £10 which should convert the port to a 16 pin OBD2 one and you should be able to use the above kit or any one of the many cheap op com kits (£18 on ebay).

Thanks for the positive feedback on the project log and also on the information about the Diagnostics Kit.
Its nice to see the guide is actually helping other drivers out there.
a few upcoming plans for the summer is to start work on the bad boy bonnet and to mod the water jets to something better.
and also need to get around to fitting the exhaust i fixed up (tempted to weld a few areas of it before fitting)
I also need to repair a seat buckle so il take some pics of that too.
we car has been running great without any problems, though seems heavy on oil. It gets me to A to B and that's the main thing.
Still has a good bita spirit in her as well as shes quite nippy when she wants to be for a standard 1.2 16v

Ah i released it and sorta caught it as it was coming out of the case so it wont clip in again.
Its happened before and I've mended it. But i think its time to buy a replacement mechanism and do it justice.

Ye mate think ya rite i had to do mine the other month cus it did the same thing but the bolt was stubbon and wouldn't undo so had to strip it apart and replace the mechanisms that way

Fixed it today while sitting in B&Q Car park.
Had popped in to buy some oil and put into the engine wanted to let it settle for a good 20mins so while waiting there, i cracked it open and fixed it.
The spring had came out of place again.

Well,
my handbrake arm when lowered feels like its not lowering all the way which puts the handbrake light on. when i get driving and give it a wee push its fine.
i recently had brake shoes and brake drum springs replaced and was told that after a while i might need to adjust it once it seats in.
Question is where do i adjust it ?
1. at the rear axle
2. under the handbrake leaver
3. at the drums ?
Also the buzzer that sounds when my lights are on and engine off sounds like its dying. any tips on replacing that as well.
I need to go pull the Haynes manual off the shelf me thinks, but if someone can save me the time researching it, id be greatfull.

Handbrake is adjusted near the middle of the rear beam, there is a weord metal bracket with a threaded bar and a nut, just tighten or loosen the nut

As stanc3w0rks says it can be adjusted at the rear beam, however this is bad practice.
You should always slacken off at the rear beam first, then adjust at the drums until you can just about feel the shoes grip on the drums, then to reduce the amount of clicks in the handbrake lever adjust at the rear beam.
The lazy way if adjusting the handbrake is just at the beam, but this may reduce handbrake lever travel, but it won't set the best foot and handbraking effect.

I've just learned something new cheers but when i did it i had replaced the cables so i had them set at the drums. Good info Blackie
