flickering lights rough idle

Post by pdrpaul »

hi looking for a bit of help. I have a slightly rough idle once rpms settle after warms up, I say settle but rpms fluctuate very slightly also have all lights on car flickering not real bad but noticiable only does it when idle... my battery is 12.5v on multimeter so its good and I tried with mates good battery to make sure got same problems. I then took voltage reading with car idling and it was fluctuating between 13.4 up to 14.1. but then when I increased rpm to 2k it was a solid 14.4 and dont budge till it went back to idle then lights flicker etc again. im geussing a bad alternator poss regulater/diodes. belts gd
and timing belt is tight with timing spot on. I have noticed a tick tick tick sound coming from alt area very fast ticking sound like a bad wheel bearing at speed. any ideas folks before I order up new alternator. earth connections etc seem good.
