99 corsa b, power loss?
Hi folks, just wondering if any of you could help me out here. for a while now my corsa has had problems when you rev it evenly remotely high. the engine light will come on and stay on, usually when I change gear it goes off and eventually will come on again if i keep going. Every morning it will not go above 10mph and is really limited on the revs, after 15-20 seconds it just comes to life and i can put the foot down. you can really feel the power limited each time you advance through a gear, 3rd - limit & light on, 4th same again.
Any ideas what It may be?
I have to work at 5am tonight (off until wednesday after) do you think it's ok to drive it? 14 mile to the airport where I work.

What engine is it? If it's ecotec I'd guess icv or egr but you'll need to take it to a local garage to get the codes read
If it doesn't fit,
force it,
If it breaks,
It needed replacing anyway

It won't be dangerous just a massive pain in the arse to live with
You can pick the sensors up 2nd very cheap but it's up to you weather it's worth it or not
What kind of civic? If it's not an ep3 I might not help you anymore

I love Honda as a machine and how they look I just hate vtec, it's a daft idea that shouldn't have became popular it's only popular because of the noise anyway
Vtec = all of the lag none of the boost

Re: 99 corsa b, power loss?
met a new guy at work who worked for vauxhall as a mechanic prior, small world lol. He said its the Air flow meter? he said just disconnect it and drive away at it since im getting rid, does that sound normal to anybody? I'm a bit of an idiot when it comes to cars, if it does make sense how do I go about disconnecting it?
I disconnected the little plug and it runs sweet as a nut! engine light is on constantly (i presume because its disconnected), took off right away (usually its dead in the morning completely 10mph limit), through all gears, no power loss at all. Reckon it's ok to crack on with it like that? or is that dangerous

Re: 99 corsa b, power loss?
Yeah mate that's an old trick, it's not dangerous by disconnecting it your forcing the ecu to run on default settings
And all you do is pull the plug off, no need to do anything else
I'd advise getting a new maf from a scrappy before you sell it though, you'll get more for it if its running right with no eml on
