So today I had a bit of time to work on it.

I started by removing the support for the battery tray, as I want the battery out of the engine bay - it's always in the bloody way when you're fiddling with the linkages or thereabouts

Once that was done I painted the top coat in the engine bay. Really needed to get this done today, as I'm expecting the suspension bits tomorrow. Would like to be in a position to start putting the suspension in this week in the evenings.

Thankfully I am not completely alone in working on the car - my 13 year-old son is as excited about this project as I am  . So whenever I'm in the garage he's in there with me and helping. Really enjoying the time in the garage with him

Yeah he's having a blast! Also a real petrolhead, so he's just soaking up info all the time

Yeah the shopping list is a monster. I forgot - also got me a button clutch plate

The list of stuff to come is not so long anymore, but I think it's going to hurt my wallet lol

Roll cage
New windscreen
Everything I need for the engine
Short shifter kit (will DIY)
Battery compartment (DIY)
Fuel surge tank (DIY)
Oil catch can (DIY)

I'm sure I've missed out many other things - I'd rather not think about them and the net financial effect they will have at this stage haha

The clutch plate has different friction pads on it, so it doesn't slip easily. Normally you'd only use it on big power applications, but I found my clutch slipping ever so slightly on gear changes after about 6 laps. This should sort it

The fuel surge tank is there to prevent fuel starvation in corners. Will def post the guide on these things

I'd like to think so, but sadly it's not always the case

I suppose we all have these awesome ideas on how we want to do things, but many times our time, abilities or finances leave the end result wanting :-|

I want to do the build to the best of my ability, without getting too pedantic about the whole thing. At the end of the day, it's going to be a RACE car, and no racing car in the world is ever perfect... If you only want to go race once everything is perfect, you'll never go racing.

My priorities are in the following order:
1 - Make sure the car is safe
2 - Make the car reliable
3 - Be competitive
4 - Try keep the car pretty

That's the plan. I'm planning to start testing in October. Superhatch season starts in Feb, so I should have it completely race-ready by then
