What's causing this knocking!
Anyone know what's causing this. When I go around corners the front end knocks very fast and its got worse over the last two days. Sounds like some metal is snapping. As you can see in the video the front wheel give a big twitch when getting to full lock. Anyone have a clue what it is?

Re: What's causing this knocking!
Have you taken the wheel off and checked for anything obvious?
First guess would be a cv joint
What's it sound like if your driving on full lock?

If it doesn't fit,
force it,
If it breaks,
It needed replacing anyway

Its a very fast clunking. Really loud too! Had a CV go on the other side and it didn't sound the same as this but not sure...

Re: What's causing this knocking!
Ruling out a cv joint would really only leave the rack as the culprit
A cv joint knock can change massively Deeping on how funked it is
Was the cv boot intact? And if you have a chance pull it back and check there's grease in it, if it's dry it'll clunk like hell so it could just be a ripped boot if your lucky

Re: What's causing this knocking!
The end of it was a bit loose so I tightened it back up but the shaft under it had grease on it but I didn't check the rest... Easy to change a drive shaft?

Re: What's causing this knocking!
It's not overly difficult but at the same time it's not just easy either
Basically you dismantle everything on the corner and it'll come out with a good tug, you should find it easy enough since you've probably taken everything off at some stage

I have heard cv joints go from a quiet ticking to a horrid banging noise lol

Re: What's causing this knocking!
Is there anyway to pack it full of grease without taking it off?

Just unclip the boot and pack it in and tighten it back up
If it doesn't fit,
force it,
If it breaks,
It needed replacing anyway

Re: What's causing this knocking!
Will that get into the CV joint to stop the knocking?
