Refitting ignition cylinder woes

Post by monkey_magic75 »

Hi all, can someone tell me the old magic and incantations I must have to use to get this damn ignition barrel back in the housing?
I've got key in at position one so it locates just short of full insertion(force of habit as full insertion hurts apparently lol). It just won't click in. This can't be that hard can it?

You have to turn the key to an exact spot (halfway between 1 and 2 iirc) and the pins will retract and it'll slide straight in
If it doesn't fit,
force it,
If it breaks,
It needed replacing anyway

Right I've tried everything to no avail but I know the problem but not solution. Problem is the steering locking mechanism won't stay pushed down to allow cylinder to be fully inserted. Any suggestions?

I honestly can't remember mate, I've only ever changed one and that was years back
