a question for the "strippers"

Post by rick »

does anyone know what the equivilant bhp figure is for the weight loss after stripping out the interior? or in other words how much bhp would you need in a car with the interior still in to have the same power to weight ratio as a stripped out car?

yes but power-to-weight ratio is also increased, but i need to figure out the sums...

standard spec GSi is around 985Kg, maybe just over 1000kg
stripped GSi (standard spec) can be ~900kg

you do get a better power to weight figure, but thats not what its all about, the car has the ability to handle better if set up properly, its generally more nimble, people who disagree need to keep stum as they dont know what they are on about. i think id hate driving my car with full interior in again

yup for the stripped and non stripped the. then the ammount of bhp needed to bring the non stripped power to weight to the same as the stripped power to weight
*edit*
i know handling improves as well but ifor the sake of this question (and keeping this on topic) lets keep it to straight like speed for now.

ok, if you go as extreme (or not depending on how you look at it) as me and paul..... id say 10bhp....if that. as i said above i didnt strip my car to make it faster in a straight line. (although it did help with my decision)

Depends hwo serious you at talking. A friend has managed to get his nova down to 640kgs (on a weigh bridge) but that\'s pretty serious.

So if a std GSi nopva is 980kgs kerb weight and his is 33% lighter (ish)

then it\'s poqer eqn is much greater, then bear in mine the engine is knocking 190BHP.

Also the power thing would only apply to acceleration, the eqn car stripped would brake later and corner faster, as the same force on the tires would occur at different cornerring accelerations due to F=ma

Well I\'ll definately agree with broster here, i didnt strip mine to make it quicker, well... intentionally to help launch times over 1/4 mile, but will see how much so at PVS, but it certainly does improve the handling, and I still have an ARB fitted!

Noisy it may be, but it is worth it :D
