Exhaust broken/hanging really low

Post by symon »

Hi folks, having a nightmare with this car recently lol :D. Driving home from work today I heard like some metal dropping, it sounded literally like 5 spanners being thrown around a washing machine, started to hear a scraping noise when I was going over speed bumps near the house, parked it up and noticed the exhaust is hanging low underneath, if's near enough touching the ground between the tyres, entire midsection is hanging down (im an idiot with cars apologies for poor terminology). Do you think this is something simple like a bracket to hold it up has broken? or am I looking at damaged parts? the car sounds like a tractor now when I start it but i'm not sure if thats because somethings broken or just fallen out of place due to the brackets giving way or whatever.

Anyone any thoughts on what I'm in for here? I'm debating whether to just scrap the car and move on, does it sound like something simple/cheap to fix? I need to make a decision really, if I choose to get it fixed I have to get the ball rolling on it or get something new fast, come Monday if I have no working car I'll probably lose my job as a result

I payed 40euro for a new centre section and backbox when mine snapped. See if it is in good enough condition to be welded and if not just get a new exhaust

i couldnt drive with mine, it literally scrapes on the ground the whole time at the minute lol. any idea on the rough cost involved in that including labour ~?

any idea on what the metal i heard falling off was? was it just simply a bracket would you guess?

sounds like a rubber hanger has snapped common on older cars. u just reminded me that my astra coupe needs new ones lol. simple fix if it is and very cheap to do yourself. I think your worst case scenario is metal hook has corroded and may need a little welding to make solid. any decent garage will do it in under a hour so should be cheap enough.go under and report back what ya see. ul prob notice it right away;) good luck

or if exhaust has corroded so bad it may have collapsed entirely in that case best bet would be replacement section. garage to do front and rear section supplied and fitted bout 120 id imagine could buy it yourself and do it for 50. get yourself haynes manual mate I had no clue bout cars two year back im now taking cylinder heads apart etc. will be best 20 bux u ever spend...

Where exactly is it hanging down? And if you could get a decent pic of the break it would help me price it for you
If it doesn't fit,
force it,
If it breaks,
It needed replacing anyway

I'd weld that, it's not a lost cause so unless you want to replace its saveable

If charge between 30-50 depending on how much material and work to make the patch/bracket
If it doesn't fit,
force it,
If it breaks,
It needed replacing anyway

That looks like a hole to me, and is probably where the hangers were before they rusted off
