Oil Leak?
Hello, I did put this on my Project log but I figured it'd get more replies here... So! The gf's dad said to me he thinks the car may be leaking oil, as there were a few drops where i'd been parking, so I checked the spaces I'd been parked for a long time and this is my space at work:
So it isn't a lot of oil as that is probably over a couple of days collection, but after being parked somewhere for a good few hours there are at least 5 drops on the floor
Me and my gf's dad assume it might be the sump plug, just wondering what you guys think? And if it is the sump plug, any tips on buying and fitting it?
Thanks!

Re: Oil Leak?
If it is the sump plug then get one from euro car parts, they're based literally everywhere, check on the website for your nearest one, and changing it over you would probably need new oil as taking the sump plug out drains it pretty much completely mate..

Re: Oil Leak?
There's oil residue at the top of the sump so that would make me think it's coming from higher up
I'd check the oil pressure switch and the oil filter housing because sometimes people don't change the O ring or don't fit it right and oil will come out, the oil pressure switch is the most common fault known to vauxhall they all go but there like 3 quid new

If it doesn't fit,
force it,
If it breaks,
It needed replacing anyway

Re: Oil Leak?
Id go with this, Ive had to change the oild px switch twice in my corsa, common fault, the seal migrated and oil can come out in any form from a few drips, to what mine did, like a tap.johnny wrote:There's oil residue at the top of the sump so that would make me think it's coming from higher up

Re: Oil Leak?
Well I changed the switch not too long ago maybe a month or so back, the oil seemed to stop for a while but it's just doing it again which is annoying :L the oil is definitely coming from that area as that's where the most build up is, I don't know whether to change it again or what

Re: Oil Leak?
Also just gone and checked today the oil needs a good top up, so what oil would you recommend and if I completely drain the old oil, how much oil do I need to put back in? Sorry for the nooby questions but it is my first car!

Re: Oil Leak?
Buy a tin of degreaser and clean as much oil off the engine as you can and then keep an eye out for where the leak is
Oil recommendation is 5w 30 but 15w 40 is cheaper and I don't really notice a difference in them and the corsa prefers a thicker oil imo

From empty it take 2.5-3 liters iirc, from min to max mark about a liter
Yeah some 10w will be fine

Re: Oil Leak?
Like Johnny said buddy, I'd give it a good clean (GUNK is what I'd recommend) then have a look after a couple of days to see where its coming from. It could be a sump gasket starting to perish also, especially if its a cork gasket. I had it on my Corsa where it was leaking from the sump, I swapped it for a new gasket and it sorted it.johnny wrote:Buy a tin of degreaser and clean as much oil off the engine as you can and then keep an eye out for where the leak is

Re: Oil Leak?
Righto thanks! I'll get this done ASAP, I did get a picture today of where the most oil is coming from, and I noticed there was 4 droplets on the sump, so it's definitely coming from above here's the pic:

Re: Oil Leak?
So I checked the inside of my coolant bottle today, and there seems to be a slight bit of oil in there, a friend of mine reckons that it's a head gasket failure, I'll get some pictures and see what you all think
