Clutch replace

Post by tonyhugill »

Newbie posting. Sorry if this is in the wrong bit or its been asked before. My clutch whines when I press it down so I'm going to have a bash at changing it myself. Its a 98 1.4. Someone said there is a guide on the forum somewhere but I can't find it anywhere. If someone could post a link I'd really appreciate it. Thanks

I posted scanned pages of a Haynes manual for replacing a clutch but I can't find the post atm

I'd recommend buying a Haynes manual anyway because it will pay for itself 10 times over
If it doesn't fit,
force it,
If it breaks,
It needed replacing anyway

You need to support the engine
Both bottom ball joints drive shafts
I then remove the anti roll bar on the near side gear linkage then the speedo cable or wire reverse light switch
Then un bolt the bell housing and engine mounts then the box will lift out

On some cars you can
It will take about 30 mins to do
You will need a new gear box end cover gasket

You can change them without removing but for your first time doing a clutch your best removing it just so you can see what your doing and how it goes in
If it doesn't fit,
force it,
If it breaks,
It needed replacing anyway

He didn't bother turning up. Gonna try and tackle it myself on Friday. Had a good look at heynes manual and it looks pretty straight forward. We will see

Owell his loss
If it's no box out they are easy
The hardest bit is fitting the new release bearing and getting to the 13mm that holds it to the clutch arm should only take about 30 mins tops

To be honest I've not looked what box it is and weather it needs to come out. Changed my oil yesterday too and didn't look. Numpty

Had a look under the car before work and it has the inspection plate, this is a good thing right?
