After a long overdue update I can no longer upload pictures from my android as they are .jpg and for some reason that isn't supported anymore. I don't want to format all my pictures so is there any other way?

What version are you using, 4.9.5 was released recently with bug fixes so could be that,

The jpeg problem is normally when your trying to upload via attachment or use the site for image hosting

I have 4.9.5 as and I have always just uploaded pictures straight from my gallery until now.

When I try upload a picture I click the paperclip (attachment) and then pick source 'gallery' and all my camera images are .jpg so it won't let me upload them.

Tap the camera icon instead, This uploads via tapatalk/imagshack host

The paperclip uploads via this site as a host, and there is a jpeg problem while using the site host, and it's an admin problem so i cant do anything about it unfortunately
