All finished up, started on the driver side. yea was a learning curve to start with, but after i finished the 1st set, knocked out the passenger set farily quickly in the dark and rain. Just think what i could do on a hot dry summers day ! :)

il post some pics later tonight. the pads and disks were badly worn. il need to replace the disks soon.

il take it for a test run 2mora and see how it drives and stops

also bought some Halfords brake cleaner spray and a torc wrench from B&Q but it only goes from 5 NM - 25 NM. Haynes Manual said i needed 30NM for the two bolts. so tightened it up to 25NM then gave it an extra twist by hand. ( its in the ball park id say )

wonder how much i saved in the end ?

There's like 10 mil of that disk that's being used
You'll need to swap them out now as they'll be unevenly worn, are the calipers free? Or did you check
If it doesn't fit,
force it,
If it breaks,
It needed replacing anyway

Disks are 10mm on them.
Haynes says 9.7mm is minimum.

Il have to do them very soon ! Might replace rear drums too. Back ones all rusty.

Brakes are kinda touching a bit there should be a 0.1mm clearance ? (Need to check Haynes) but I didn't know how to adjust any tips Johnny ?

I ment your braking surface here
Image
That disk should be silver but you can see only a tiny part of the disk is being used

For adjusting, you need to let the pads bed in for a couple days, you'll feel the pedal get harder as the pads bed,

What I ment about checking the calipers, you take out the 2 bolts once the caliper is apart you put the slider part of the bolt back in and run it in and out making sure it's moving freely

If it's not your caliper is sticking and needs cleaned out and re greased with red rubber grease not copper like most suggest, the rubber grease last longer and withstands the heat alot better, it doesn't leave deposits either like the copper grease does

Post was abit longer than I planned

Cheers Johnny good tips / advice.

I had to use needle nose pliers to remove the bolts when unscrewed came out slow and steady. Is it just the bolt that needs grease ? I would need to know exactly what to grease as if be afraid to grease the disk or pads. The bolts could maybe use a tiny bit more grease but I could do that when I replace the disks.

I know the disks need done ASAP but with the new pads in place shouldn't the the face of the disks turn silver again ?

Final question is the brake fluid. When I undone the brake fluid cap to free up the piston etc. none overflowed but its damm close to the.. Emm I think it's an overflow. There looked to be a piece of sponge or something in the overflow.

Advice on that ? Il read up about the master cylinder in Haynes in a bit.

You should be able to slide them in in and out by hand, to clean and re grease them it's only a matter of getting a wood drill bit and sticking it into the caliper where the slider/bolts go, you should be able to turn the drill bit by hand but if not use a drill on low power and the drill bit picks up any crap and cleans out your caliper then you just grease the slider/bolt and it should be good as new

With the disks it depends on condition of calipers and if it's left a grove in the disk

The corsa brake fluid needs to be filled to near the top of the bottle anyway to stop the handbrake light coming on so I wouldn't worry about that :)

So everything should be fine if I keep an eye on it and replace the brake discs next month or asap.

My handbrake light does flick on too easy but I think that's down to the loose handbrake I need to tighten the handbrake at the rear axel soon.
