1.4 16v sport starting and running issues

Post by v6matt »

The old girl is having issues starting, as if it's being starved of something. When it is running it idles fine. When revved hard she stutters, but if revved slowly it's fine.

I had the same sort of problems with my v6 vectra and it turned out to be a vacuum pipe. Is it likely to be the same sort of thing?

Could be a number of things, eg worn out spark plugs will do it. So when was it last fully serviced?

A frequent issue on them is the AFM. Try disconnecting it and see if it's any better.

Sparks are fine, new oil, filter and air filter. Going to have a play this weekend and change the fuel filter. Will try the afm and see what happens.

Any other ideas to try wile I'm at it??

My sports not a fan of starting sometimes and its nowhere near as quick as my old one,

It will start first crank from flat cold, but get it warm then leave it half hour and it seems to crank for ages and struggles to start,

No air leaks on intake and new plugs and no fault codes stored,

Oh the joy,

Hopefully the 1600 lump will run better when i get round to swopping it over once ive rebuilt it

I'd try change the coolant temp sensor
If it doesn't fit,
force it,
If it breaks,
It needed replacing anyway

It's just under the stat housing and S pipe iirc it's a two pin blue connector
If it doesn't fit,
force it,
If it breaks,
It needed replacing anyway

Is it back firing and feel like is cuttin out? When mine was doing that it was the maf sensor which messed up the spark plugs

Yeah could be maf aswel but I'd check the cts first since the problem seems to be temp related

force it,
If it breaks,
It needed replacing anyway

Is the Cts difficult to change?

Na, remove S pipe at stat housing, pull the 2 pin plug off and unscrew it

It's a bit tight but not difficult
If it doesn't fit,
force it,
If it breaks,
It needed replacing anyway
