Multi function display dead, '94 1.4 sport.

Post by ukhozi »

My MFD or triple display is dead.
I have two, both dead.

I have 12v permanent, 12v ignition and ground at the plug, both bulbs are good, illumination, headlight voltages, etc. all good.

One clue is cold start is crap despite all sensors ICV, ATS, TPS, all checked, so could the ECU be faulty?

Triple display sorted with a second hand one, had a slight panic when it didn't work either but that was just duff bulbs, do NOT cut the grey/red wire, the display goes blank when lights on, the 'data on' wire CAN be cut so the date stays on.

Still have the 'cold' start problem on the C14SE Takes a full 5 minuets until engine is warm enough to drive without stalling, and I mean 'cold' here is 15 F !
Once the engine is up to temperature I can rev' it freely and there is no problem starting again and it goes like a scalded cat.

I have replaced the temp' sensor in the head just in case and swapped the air flow sensor also, no change, new plugs and leads, (genuine), no change.

It's like it needs 'choke' but of course there isn't one with EFI so could it be an ECU problem not enriching the mix? Weak fuel pump?

Dunno, help needed.

Still have the 'cold start' problem with this C14SE.
Acts like I should be pulling out the choke knob, which as we know it doesn't have.

Fine when warmed up for a couple of minuets.

Changed the temp' sensor in the head, the little one with the slide on spade terminal.
Idle Control Valve acts as it should.
I changed the air flow censor for a tried and tested OEM one, with no change.
Throttle position sensor set at correct voltage.
Air filter OK
New HT leads and plugs.

These will have an automatic choke on them won't they?? I know with mine when it's cold it revs at around 1500 rpm while its warming up and then cuts back down just below 100rpm when it's warm and I'm good to go what's yours revving at when it's started??

Have you changed the coolant temp sensor? 15°F that's like -13-14°C I think which is going to be awfully sore on an old engine anyway so it could just be because it's so cold

How fresh is the coolant?
If it doesn't fit,
force it,
If it breaks,
It needed replacing anyway

Realised you said you've already changed the temp sensor, any fault codes?
