ECU Fault Logging

Post by NickDawes »

Hey, I was just wondering.....

If an ECU logs every fault occuring with sensors etc-

Is the memory of the ECU cleared if the car battery has been dead for a few hours?
If the ECU is given a diagnostic test, will it report a fault that has been logged, even if the problem has been fixed in the past?
Exactly which light on the dash is the \"ECU light\"? Is it the yellow engine managment light?
Where specificaly (not \"near the pedals\" or \"in the engine bay\") is the ECU on a 1.4i Sri 96?

jus a few questions i had after reading a website posted on corsasport.co.uk about fault logging, would be grateful if you guys could clear them up

ECU Fault Logging

Post by punkheadgray »

i reckon J1400 will know
i know the ECU loses set up information when batterys disconnected for a couple of hours or so,
but idve thought there would be a couple of capacitors in there to keep some power for the log, and enable it to be read. im guessing that the log will over write its self as well so that old logs dont throw up again, but then im basing my knowledge on wheel slide protection systems from central line trains
not sure on rest of stuff matey bit late at night now for anyone else to be around
