Is it possible to cram 4 x 10" subs into a corsa boot?

Hi there,

Well, ive been pondering on the idea, and i know a reasonable bit about ice installs, and that for a sub to be working properly to its maximum potential that ya need to have the box to the exact size the sub requires (e.g 30 cubic litres).

So, i am wanting to try and fit 4 x 10\" subs into my boot (i dont want to remove my back seats, and i want it doing in mdf, rather than fibreglass. As to be honest i find it easier to work with mdf and to shape things with mdf, im not a fan of fibreglass, even if it is stronger.

These are the bad boys i have, although i only have 2 at the moment, as i didnt want to purchase 4 as knowing my luck ill be trying to do an impossible task lol.

(this sub needs 15.46litre box in volume to work to its maximum potential)

Now im not sure how i should go about building it..... i.e. 2 subs in the middle, 1 sub on either side, or 4 subs in pentagon shape in the middle etc. Also would i want each sub in a seperate box....or join all of the boxes together (so its one big box).... im not sure which would sound best.

Also i would probably have to locate the amps in the actual car, or underneath the sub builds, as there wont be much room left in the actual boot for the amps (ive worked out for the setup i want ill need 2 monoblock amps, and 2 smaller amps (for components). Now would it be better for these to go under the front seats, or under a perspex sheet in the floor, or would it be easier to do an alpine stlye install and mount them in the roof?

What do you guys a) think sounds best b)thinks more practical and c) thinks easiest.......obviously i have a fair idea of what im going to do, just looking for a bit of input from you guys, also any further ideas of which i might be able to implicate would be very much welcomed.

Also any pictures would be helpful too, if anyones seen or heard of anyone doing this before. (Please remember though the back seats are staying firmly in my car, and not being moved.)

whty about a simply box enclosure but make it have a bit more depth and have subs out the back too or even the sides

when i buld mine i screwed the box frm the inside, with these plastic blocks is seriously stong and no rattles, also used glue

i reckon you could do it, just make the box slightly smaller then recommended, u wouldnt notice difference in sound quality.
have two at the bottom pointing towards boot, and two above that pointing towards front of car, with no parcel shelf. tint the windows no-one will ever know

Anyways cheers for the input, yer i know what you mean about using free air subs, but the only problem is that....basically, they sound crap, and the subs i am wanting to use they dont make free-air subs because of the above reason.

If i have the sub pointing out backwards, so you can see the magnets, i can make the boxes a lot smaller (as theres more volume in the box if the magnets not in there. Leaving me with a nice looking install, with more room to play with.

So im gona have 2 10\" on a slope on either side, so as you look in the boot, you will see one sub facing ur left side and one facing ur right side. And then one in the middle of the boot (i.e. aboce where the spare wheel well was....) with the magnet facing, and the box underneath the smooth mdf top, and the final one in the middle but looking directly at you (i.e so its near the back seat.

Im gonna have a play about anyways, i got the floor in the boot, and the sides and back also, so see what i can do......

A corsa boot realli is smaller than you realise isnt it....

should fit 2 in middle 2 at sides, amps in front.

nope, although, im not 100% sure on this one, but i remember a wise old man (who\'s escort ICE van was in maxpower couple of months back - had oxygen audio gear in it, had 8 subs in the back in a diamond shape and had mirror at the back to make it look like it had 16 in....) anyways he told me, due to using a number of amps in a system, or something like that, its a series circuit and so it is difficult to power up an odd number of subs. Although 1 is ok.....so basically he said you can have 1, 2, 4, 6, 8 etc etc but odd numbers dont work properly, and they fire at different times, so 2 of them will play the note, and then the third one will play the note...... this may sound like a loada poo, and i dont completley get the jist of it, but supposedly it sounds poo, and isnt worth doing....thats why all the spl cars have an even number of subs in the cars.....

Hmm, sounds strange to me, that. One of my mates was runnin a set-up of two 10\'s and a 12 in his Mi16 and he had one of the best set-ups I\'d ever heard.

Then for a brief perios in his new car he was runnin two 10\'s and a 15 and no difficulty with that either.
