Overheating Problem??

Post by club_casualty »

I was on motorway for maybe 25 mins on sat in the hot sun stuck in heavy traffic hardly moving and the temp gauge was in the red and the engine started smoking.
I didn\'t know what to do so i thought fek it and drove down the hard shoulder till the engine cooled a bit.
Don\'t suppose it helps with the car being black.

Is there any reason why it seems to be overheating so quickly?
And anything i can do to stop it?

Overheating Problem??

Lots of the corsa engines are well known for excessive heat generation, Air induction kits don\'t help as its sucking in hot air from the engine bay when stood still causing more and more heat build up.

Sat in traffic mine rapidly flys up to 100 c (I have the same car/engine as you)

The rad fan then kicks in and drops the temp back to 92.5 ish before flicking off, then the cycle repeats.

driving along in the baking sun I have noticed my temp gage of recent move from 90 (Which its usually always on) up to a max of 95 which then starts to drop at faster speeds (More cooling air into engine bay and my induction kit I guess)

It worries me that your rad fan isn\'t kicking in, check the fuses, parked up see if you can hear the fan and if it kicks in, the engine should never go into the red on usual usage.

hopefully its just the fuse!

Might be worth flushing out your rad, checking ya coolant level, (Make sure you mix anti freeze back in as it helps with heat transfer!)
I know its all very general and not particularly helpful but I thought you would like a report off someone with the same engine/car as you :)

should the fan come on when then cars running at normal temp or just when it get hot?

if you still have problems with overheating why not get some water wetter?

the fan should cum on at bout 90 but if the fan fails it could be a few resons like the water pump might not be pumpin the water around the system or the tem sender switch is O_o or the thermalstat is nakard my first corsa alwayz did it so all i did when i waz in traffic waz put all the windows down and put the heatin on but point it out the windows and that will stop the car from over heating
