retro fitting c16xe

Post by Adam-D »

just a passing thought

would it be beneficial to fit carbs to the c16xe?
tb\'s are £1500 odd

wondering what power would be had how difficult it would be ignition etc

or are tb\'s worth saving up for

IT depedns what youw ant your car for.

If you intend to drive it everyday then TB\'s would be better from the fuel economy and driveablity in traffic aspect, they\'d pay for themselves eventually.

If it\'s strickly a track car running nice cams etc.. then Carbs are the more econmical choice. You need to run mappable ign management which is around 100-300 and could just get a bse map from someone runnign silimar cams in their car to get you going. TB\'s off no gain in peak power over Carbs, rallying ppl dont\' bother with TB\'s as simple is good, and cost aswell, you\'ll be looking at 1000 for everythign on the car running, the real cost of TB\'s is more like 2000+

Well then Adam, I\'d suggest you get some omega\'s and some very lumpy cams in there, some MBE, DTA or emerald (my fav) and a good manifold and exhaust system, I\'d speak to Ashely about a full hand made set up to match the cams.

You could be staring at around 190BHP with good head work, but you\'ll also need uprated springs with that too.

take a std 16XE (any will do)

Get the head gas flowed and new stem seals etc...
Pocket the std pistons 2mm
Have the bottom end balanced and new shells put in. If it\'s low mileage (up to 75k) then leave the rings alone.
Bowyer carb inlet manifold
emerald ecu (cause they rule!!)
ARP rod bolts
Lumpiest cams you can run on hydrolic lifters
pair of 45mm webers or dellortos
some trumpets with air fitlers
Decent tubular exhuast manifold, janspeed etc...
2.25\" exhaust system
4.18CWP for the gearbox.

U can get a turbo conversion done at courtenay on a x16/c16 for 3200. that includes everything including fitting, and they give u an out put of 155bhp. This is proven by rolling road! and does not need any engine work

follow j1400 advice sounds about right to me

but boy do 45s drink my skip brown 1.9 205 now does 8 to gall on the road roughly 4 on the track!!!!!

don\'t know about corsa but std brain is retained on 205 for ign as separate inj control so could save you some money till you save for emerald for even more power that\'s usable

oh nearly forgot cats don\'t like 45s either so look out at mot time or get a pre 1990 car no cat required

Or use a pre 91 block from a nova GSi, keep all th epaper work and then it has to be tested on the ages of the engine, which goes according to the block ;)

Have you had the carbs set up on the RR (I\'m guess yes by Skip browns, but 8 seems mega low, I can only get the nova down to 8-9\'s with abuse)
