I really dont know what to do with it,

Insurance is gunna f**k me whatever i do so i am going to have to bite the bullet with that.

I am currently \'in the money\' so i have enough for either of the conversions.

(oh and for people that know me i have quit smoking!! 1 week and 3 days, hav it!!

I\'d say the age of the XE is generally not the reason they fail - all the XE problems are sensor or oil leak based.
Providing you replace water and oil pumps, change the belt and idler wheels and give the internals a quick inspection you should be fine.

I\'d rather fit an 20XE than have a 16XE, hence my reason for changing.

Fit an XE and you can start your engine modifying all over again.
Fit a 1.6 and TBs and you\'re already getting close to your limit (unless you can warrant spending 10k on an engine).

Go for a Tb\'s on the 1600 mate!

Xe\'s weigh a sht load and everyone has got them, at the pvs show they mite aswel of come standard on corsa\'s and novas! Standard power aint all that tbh, a 1.6 on tb\'s with a shot of NOS would be very sweet around the track and not to bad at the pod!

The weight of an XE is negligible over a 1.6. Even on standard suspension handling is acceptable and certainly no worse than a standard 1.6 Sport.

Power wise, the XE is very capable and delivers good torque through the gears making it a lovely daily drive plus it has the ability to put the power down when needed.

Take the XE further with TBs and you\'ll be looking at 180bhp with no worries. Modify the XE and you can introduce yourself to the 200+ club.
NOS your thing? 75bhp jets are nicely suited.

16XE\'s are crap end of.

how true that is, instant fun, theres a tendency to respect the work gone into a 1600 more than the XE. i can understand that

cheers for comments guys, think its gunna be throttle bodies. This is only because its different. I need to do an insurance quote on them both anyway so we will c. My 16XE engine has only done 39000 miles so is a pretty good base to start on as i know it wont f**k up 4 a while. Full vauxhall service history aswell.

We will see anyway.....wont be done for a while (trax maybe)

Respect the work? Wtf? If all you want is a \"my knobs bigger than yours\" competition then you only had to ask.
If I wanted to and could justify spending it, 10k on an engine wouldn\'t be a problem. Now I\'m gutted I went the XE route because now people don\'t respect it as much.

People that modify the 1.6 just to be different are idiots IMO. Sure there\'s a real need in certain applications to limit the engine size and yes good power can be had from the 16XE engine... but when the 20XE is such a tried and tested power plant and can easily be bought for under £150...

why.

i have an XE, im not getting into another argument with you, im just saying that most people view the XE as a quick way to power with least effort, and thats what it is.
but tuning a 1.6 takes time and not as many people do it, hence why i think there a tendency to respect that a bit more, plus phil has a good 1.6, so why not? :D

Not arguing with you, but making my thoughts available for others reading.

Tuning the 1.6 takes no more time than tuning the 2.0 You know yourself there is no argument. Tuning the 1.6 will just lead to disappointment when you finally realise what you could have had :P

well yeah, i see what your saying, but then you\'ve gotta spend the money to put the XE in and then more money to tune it.
i do agree with you, but its so easy to just throw a perfectly good 1600 away, and it seems phil has a good one. i wouldnt say it\'d lead to dissapointment, ive never had the 1600 myself but i know they are quite good :D

Throw it away? Far from it! I sold off all the crap I didn\'t need and bought a set of coilovers with the proceeds.

There\'s plenty of people wanting to be \"different\" so it\'s easy to make money out of them

The 1600 is a crap engine. Underpowered as standard, you need to raise the rev limit to get any decent gains with a different inlet manifold, no torque, they\'re a pain in the ass to work with...
