Locking threads...

Maybe it\'s just me but the mods do seem to be very \"lock-happy\" when it comes to threads.

Take the latest one re. the spell check for example:

There\'s plenty more that could be added to the argument for / against having the spell check, but instead the thread was cut down in it\'s prime. Surely it\'s better to leave the thread open, otherwise you\'ll just end up with new threads being created to follow on from where the other thread was locked.

I find this very hyprictitcol Joff when it was you who was moaning about the same questions being asked over and over again.

This is the same with this post about the spell checker.

Locking it prevents further pointless posts being posted which are then highlighted and then provide a disappointing read.

I\'ll reiterate for your benefit.. the thread re. the same questions being posted was a sarcastic response to Paul\'s topped thread re. the same subject.

I\'ve already explained this once.

Just because you\'re not able to cope with a debate beyond a few posts doesn\'t mean others aren\'t capable. Leave the thread open, only lock it when it becomes offensive. If the thread serves no purpose, then delete it.

joff i\'ll say it again, i honestly do not mind you at all.

the same topics will come up over and over again, new members do not have the benefit of years of experience, and they are mostly after a quick answer

One way to help to reduce the number of same topics is to have a comprehensive FAQ page.

i do agree with you, but new members people have to be more patient with, rather then saying this has been answered time and again look at this link, just a bit more

Just because they\'re new members doesn\'t mean we should have to nanny them.
They managed to get themselves onto the Internet, they managed to get themselves onto the Corsa-B website, hopefully they even own a Corsa...

..so they should at least try to find the answer themselves before posting another thread.

totally disagree with you, any website is hard to navigate to begin with. the only way round it is to have a pop up of FAQ, weve been through this with paul, and he says it\'d annoy regulars that dont sign in permanently. and i agree with him

The reason why phpBB, yaBB, XMB, UBB, etc templates are so popular, because they\'re familiar.
If a new member is too stupid to be able to find the forum \"Tutorials, Hints & Tips\". If that\'s too confusing, then there\'s a handy description underneath that reads \"Find out the answers to the most Common Problems & Questions in here, as well as some useful Help & Advice. \"

If they still can\'t cope with that, they deserve all the abuse they get.
