How much will it be to replace the head gasket on 1.4 8v corsa?
I\'ve seen a gasket set for about £15 is this worth getting or will it be cheap poo as the price suggests

For the cost, I\'d possibly tackle it myself but then you\'d still need to sort getting the head checked, etc.
No more Corsa :(

yeah mine was about the same on the 1.4 engine, worth having it skimmed really incase it has warped  you can get it skimmed for about £30 if you do the head yourself

Depends how poorly the engine was before hand

you got gases/liquids leaking from one part of the engine to another your going to lose power somewhere along the line..

My car deff felt 100% better after replacing the head gasket!

i replaced my head gasket a couple months back, the car is idleing properly and the steamy exhaust has stopped but im still losing water. The head was skimmed and all the necessary parts were changed. anyone had the same problem? :|

skiiming the head wont make much difference really, it will raise the compression but not enought to give you power gains

I paid £20 for the gasket set and it cost me £28 to get the head skimmed (trade price) and then a mate did the rest. I dropped car off on a Thursday evening at the garage he works at... took them 20 minutes to strip the engine, head went off for skimming friday morning and by 7pm friday evening the engine was back together and car was running sweet.
I been quoted between £200 and £400 to get my head gasket sorted! tis cheaper and prolly easier to just get a new engine imo..... keep an eye on the mayo build up on your oil cap and dip stick and your coolant level and don\'t let the coolant run dry or you\'ll get a pretty nackerd engine with the only option is a new engine.

take ya car down a trusted local little garage and get \'em to do a pressure test on it and see how badly its going/gone etc and get \'em to give you a quote on fixing it and fitting a new engine in.
ouch i onlypaid 60 for my headgasket, i had it replaced 3 times before i got a new engine...lol

Mine went the first time.. then the bottom end went. Thats when I opted for an engine transplant.

also guys skim too much and as mentioned your compresion ratio goes up, go too far and petrol explodes due to pressure (not the spark) before the pistons at the top of its stroke! at best very bad pinking, at worst \"New engine please!\" take advice from reliable source SBD motor sport, Regal etc.
