Options! What do you think?

Post by spud »

Hi all,

I\'m seriously looking at buying a Corsa in the next week or so and have decided to look at either a 1.2 or a diesel. Bearing in mind I will have about £1500 to spend, do not do monster mileage and that mpg and reliability are paramount, what are the pros and cons of either option?
I don\'t think I would want a larger petrol version and please also bear in mind that poor performance is acceptable (remember that I once owned a 2CV  all 602cc of it). I do not intend to tune or modify the car when I get it.
By the way, what is the cost of the road fund licences of each option?
I thought I\'d ask you people as you appear to know a lot about them !!

Cheers,

Spud.

Why are you looking at a Corsa? If you know the budget you\'ve got then why not look at other options from other manufacturers?
No more Corsa :(

I had a drive in my mate\'s 1.7D and although the performance was nothing to write home about he assured me that it is very very cheap to run. Also, our local independent garage also suggests that a Vauxhall is a better option than a foreign or even a Ford alternative. I\'m of the opinion that because there are so many Corsas around then spares are more readily available and also quite cheap :) At the moment I run a Y reg 2.0 TD Vectra as my main car and it costs peanuts to run!!
Having said all that could you convince me that another manufacturer could offer something similar or better for the same money?

Thanks for your input y\'all.

depends where you look really, classifieds here and autotrader are a good place to start, freeads.co.uk is quite aswell. prices vary, a good r reg one would probs set you back around £1300. so probs for that price youd be looking at a s or t plate 1.2 8v or 16v.

When did the 1.2 engines change from 8v to 16v ?
Apart from the torque differences, are there any other physical differences between the engines?

Has anyone any idea when the 8V was replaced with the 16V ?

Finally, what does a corsa \'a\' look like?

So that\'s why I\'ve never seen one - I\'ve seen plenty of Novas

By the way, what are the differences between the models i.e merit, envoy, GL, GLS, breeze etc? I appreciate that it relates to trim levels and extras, but is there a list anywhere showing what extras were fitted to which model?

sxi\'s are good for starter corsa\'s, they have all the trim of teh sport like the same interior, spoiler and rims. just the engine\'s different. but there again just do a quote on a sport and i bet it will be hardly any different.
