Hey all, not posted on here in a while, which is a good thing realy- means my car hasnt broke on me recently
Although, for the past month or 2 I have been putting up with an annoying rattling noise coming from inside the dash. Now this isnt electrical, and doesnt even sound mechanical. It sounds as if there is a penny sitting somewhere inside the dash that is just bouncing around as the car is moving. Driving me mad!
Referring to a Max Power Haynes Manual, i decided the best way to approach it would be to take the dials out (the noise is coming from the drivers side) an have a nose around inside the dash.
Followed the manual up until this point \"If your lucky, the dials will lift straight out. If you are unlucky, you will have old fashioned speedo cable...\" etc.
Now the manual has detailed instructions including pictures for turning the steering wheel 90º, but when it comes to something I actualy need help with it says...
\"Trace the thick black wire from under the bonnet to the transmission and unscrew it. This will give enough slack to pull the dials out.\" Something to that affect. Helpful
So basicaly, im asking- where is it I need to unscrew to loosen the speedo cable? Its an old corsa, 96 8v Sri.
cheers in advance

its at the back of the engine, around by where the gearbox meets the block, it mite even be on the gear box, it got a plastic bit on it with the cable going into that before it attaches to the block/gearbox,
i hope that this helps

you shouldnt have to take the speedo cable off the box to get the clocks out. i have never had to on either of my corsas. i find unscrew ther clocks from the deeley, pull the left hand side up a bit and fire hand round back and remove the cable. if you can get your hadn to the cable there is a metal clip under it, part of the clocks. push it towards the clocks and pull the cable.
the cable, if you want to take it off the box, goes in where the gear linkage is. its a 19mm????? spanner for the end of it, or if that fails there is a groove in it you can get a big screw driver in and push it round.
if yor still having bothers and it has the original vauxhall cable on, jack driver side of car up, remove wheel, lie underneath and you should be able to see trhe speedo cable. its actually a 2 piece item and can be sepereated.
