Yesterday I decided to take some slack off my alternator belt, it was only about 4-5mm at the most, I did this because at high revs the belt would make a stupid whistling noise.
Now taday I wanted to go shopping because I am going away on holiday but when I started it up it makes a stupid kinda like failing water pump noise, so I got some WD40 and sprayed it on the belt and started it up again and it still makes that failing water pump noise and their was WD40 all over the engine bay. sh**!!
Is this the Alt belt being a b*gger or is this the water pump, I have to warn you also it is not a GM alternator belt, it just a cheapy that costs around £3, also the cambelt was not changed that long ago (about 4 months max).
I thought 8 Valvers were supposed to be more reliable than 16 Valvers!!!!!!!!
Could the Alternator belt be slipping, is that what is making the noise?
The engine is 1.2i 8v (C12NZ).
ALL help will be greatly appreciated

Alternator Belt Problems
Try removing the belt and seeing if it makes the noise. If not then it could be the bearings in the alternator, as they can get worn by a tight belt.

Alternator Belt Problems
Thanks M8
Will give it ago, although I am pretty shore it is the alternator as that is where the whining noise is coming from, I am getting a new GM V belt though, but by the sounds of things it probably needs a new alternator.
What do you suggest I do, get a new alternator then?
Thanks for you help and advice!

Alternator Belt Problems
Seems to be the Alternator, oh well, I will just whip the old one out and shove a recond unit in its place, job done.
I will reply later when I can afford a new alt as I am pretty much skint at the minute, I will also say if the problem has been solved or not.
