Seatbelt Fine...... ?
Hi there,
I was pulling out of work the other night at about 11.30pm, and never put my belt on, yes yes, i know im a naughty boy, but normally i honestly wear it, it just slipped my mind.
Following this, i was driving down the road and a car went past me, and i realised it was a police car, so i quickly got my belt on after he had past. Following him passing me, he turned around, and flew right up my arse, followed me for about a mile or 2, and then flashed me and put his indicators on. (not putting his blues on) He then asked me to get in the car with him in the front (not the back). There was only one policeman, and he told me my rights etc and then said do i know why he\'d pulled him over.
I played dumb and denied not having my seatbelt on to begin with, and he eventually persuaded me to admit to it by saying things like, \"i know you wernt wearing it\" and \"ive never been wrong about anything like this before\" and other stuff. I then questioned him and said do you not have to have some kind of proof of me not wearing it.... and he replied with, \"you have just admitted to not wearing it\" and \"if i say you wernt wearing it, then you wern\'t\" .....
So anyways, he started filling out the ticket and took all the car details, and then asked my name and occupation. I told him my name and that i was a student. He then asked me how old i was and i said, 17.
With that, he crossed out the ticket and told me due to my age he could only give me a warning or give me a £100 fine and take me to court, of which he wasnt prepared to do. So with that he issued me with a warning and told me to get lost.
Now im a bit miffed about this one, as 1) he never asked for any proof of me only being 17, 2)never ran a check on me nor the car and 3)he just let me go scott free.........
Now is this because a)he realised that i knew he had to have some kind of proof of me not wearing a belt before he could fine me and he never had any proof. b)he had to have another officer in the car to be proof or a camera of some kind or c)he was a nice policeman and told me the truth.......
Its just ive had plenty of my friends who are dumb enough not to wear a belt all the time, who are 17, and they have had lots of fines, and never had anything said about there ages........
Either way im not bothered, i got out of paying a £30 fine and im 18 on friday, so either way im screwed if its true or false. Just something thats gonna niggle in the back of my head until i get an answer.
Cheers
Adam

Are you sure he was a policeman? did he not have any blue lights, was he on his own? was it an \'undercover car\'?? Or was it just some nutter in a shirt and tie who wanted to O_o with your head???

they can and do pull on there own but have to call for assistance to arrest or charge but as mentioned they tend to warn and let go when alone

.......Prick! I think i know what a copper looks like mate, i dont need your immature and sarcastic comments thankyou very much!
I always put my belt on before ive even started the car
My friend keeps getting fines for not wearing his, but he doesnt wear it due to a few years back he crashed his metro and as he never had his belt on, it flung him into the passenger seat, and where the drivers side footwell was, was now the engine, so if he had worn his belt he wouldnt have moved, and so the engine would have crusher/taken off his legs. He reckons that you can get some sort of certificate from the doc allowing you not to wear a seatbelt, in certain cases, but this im not sure on.
