Oil Leak

Post by voodoo_jellybaby2k2 »

Right, yet another problem with my car (I\'ve decided to put them all in separate threads to make it easier for me to read and for others to help  )

Right basically, i topped the oil up last week as it was running low. I then had to put my car up on the ramps to remove the heat shield that was making a noise as it was broken 2 nights ago.

Upon lifting the car up, i saw a poo of oil all under my car (i think its the sump that it was covered in it, but not sure, the bottom bit of the engine anyway)

Anyways, my mate looked at it and said that it looks like the rocker cover gasket needs replacing desperately as the oil is coming out pretty badly from there. He said replace this and see how you go.

Now, although i haven\'t done that yet (getting done tomorrow! ) is there any other commonplace for a 1.4 8v engine to spring a oil leak??? As my oil is now down 2 minimum after being filled up this time last week.....

The cars not burning oil, and if it is, then i ain\'t getting no clouds of blue smoke out the back of my car......

Yet again, any help much appreciated!!

Oil Leak

Post by voodoo_jellybaby2k2 »

Thanks, ill give it a go tomorrow

Anyway, back to the subject. My brother fitted the rocker cover gasket today. We tightened back up and left it for a while. Then used some off this spray stuff (i think de-greaser) to take all the poo and oil and other stains off the engine, so we could see if there were any other leaks and stuff later.)

Following this i went out to Teeside Park and drove back to Darlington (about a 40mile round trip)

Anyway, i got back to Darlington, and my rocker cover gasket was pissing oil everywhere, the whole car stank of it, and the engine was smoking (due to the oil as it came out of the gasket and ran down the engine). The oil was running out of the rocker cover gasket and all over. It wasn\'t just coming out of one place though, every part of the rocker cover gasket was leaking, just as it was before...

Now is this because it wasnt fitted properly(doubt it, my brother knows what hes doing)

The gasket was poo and was defected...

or something else???

P.s we did thoroughly clean where the gasket was to go onto of poo and oil, so thats not a factor in this.

As for Sherwoods doing stir-frys and stuff, then aye the do pretty good food, but i think thats Sharwoods innit?

Oil Leak

Try steam cleaning your engine good and proper so that the whole thing is spick and span then you should be able to see any leeks. If your losing that much oil you may have a hole in your sump as i did. Replaced that and hasn\'t leaked since.

Oil Leak

Problem sorted, my brother had over tightened the bolts on replacement of the new gasket, and had also tightened them up in the wrong way

Consequently the gasket snapped and came away at the back, leaving oil freely able to piss all over my engine and get it messed up again.

I bought a new gasket and fitted it myself and is sorted now! Then power washed my engine, so its nice and shiny.

No leaks or nething, although it was a bit lumpy straight after the power wash.
