Progress while the site was down

Post by j1400 »

Went down to see the car and had a bit of a mince. Mounted up the new top mounts to see how they went in. I\'ve just got to remove a bit of the thread from the Nut on the top to allow it to clamp down fully, and then it will be all done, they look better than the rubber std items, but as they say, the proof will be in the pudding.

Been a bit quiet on the western frotn recently, but been beavering away, the arches now take the wheels are the way round, and just been waiting on my shipment to arrive.

Had a big shipment of stuff arrive today, was like christmas opening everything (except the bill)

Strut Brace
X-drilled 300mm rotors (1kgs saving over the plain)
Pair of wilwood midlite calipers
Braided lines for the above
Harness mount plates
Polybushes (for Dan\'s corsa)
Pads for the calipers

I\'m very impressed with the quailty of the calipers they make my old wilwoods look like they came from the pound shop.

Sorry for blurry image

Could resist it any longer, was driving me mad in work, had to go down and see what all the new stuff looked like on the car. So got home dinner changed and down to see the car(s)

First thing was to unbolt the old rotors and put on the new ones.

then in true mincer style the prospect of having to take the wheel off seemed too much effort so I plonked on the strut brace for a trail fit. goes on as expected really no big issues just needed a little adjustment to get it to sit happily, but comign off to matt black the mofo

Then on to the main event of the night, the fitting. I wrestled the discs on as it\'s a tight fit (deliberately but tight all the same) and the disc was on, with a bit of allen key majic I locked the wheel to stop it rotating, and then hung the caliper with another allen key, to let me see how much space I had. As suspected it\'s millimetres space in there.

At this point I felt sorry for the clio as its been untouched bar new wipers and a good washing, so here\'s some pics of it to keep it happy

Been very slack and not touched the nova for ages now. Since I last reported I\'ve got hold of some spare hubs to allow me to sort out the mounts for the brakes off the car, much easier and warmer, also the car is out in 0-5deg temps and want the brakes to be room tempt o measure up everythgin as they\'ll be operating hot rather than cold, so would be better to be as near the hot end of things when sorting it out.
I\'m planning to make up the dumby mounts with some 2x2 wood to let me get it wrong olts and tols, thewn when I\'m happy I\'ll send them off to be made up in ali billet.

Lumped the wheel assembly on my desk but proved to be a little cu,bersome to do anything so it\'s nwo my very expensive foot rest till I get the bits form the shed I need.

Looks like I\'ll have about 3mm clearance round the side, so all good.

Merry Christmas everyone !!
