Engine Swap?

Post by purecarsound »

Ok

K has decided that she wants a bit more umph under the peddle. Rather than going through the task of selling her corsa and then getting a new one, we are considering the option of an engine transplant.

I am not a mechanic (do service thingys but thats about it)

Questions

1) What would be best engine to go for? 1.4 or 1.6 (do not want to go any bigger than that), and what engine model is best.

2) What is involved (and i dont mean swap the engine silly comments) ie, does the loom and gearbox have to be changed as well, or can it be got away with not changing them?

3) Timescale. How quickly can an engine transplant be done?

4) Cost. Generally, how much does it cost.

Thankyou!

Mark

you will need teh loom and ecu from the car donor car paul w will tell you on the best engine to go for what engine is in now if its a 1.2 or 1.0 you may need to change the engine mounts and driveshafts
an engine transpalnt can be done in a day and the cost can vary from £200 up £1000 depending on how much work there is for the garage

Engine Swap?

Post by purecarsound »

The engine swap for k\'s corsa is on hold. My bottom end went and it is now my car having the swap. Not going bigger though. Have sourced a 1.4i engine from a P reg corsa 53k on clock, one bonus is that the car is the same colour code as mine, so am having the wings and bonnet from it as well (donor car had rear end smash!). The engine, wings and bonnet are costing me £200 notes! and the fitting is costing me £200 as well! Not a bad deal I think. Its all getting done this weekend so I should have the car back next week all things being good.
