6X9's
this is going to sound really stupid, but i\'m new to this so you\'ll have to let me off, but hey.
from my understanding, sub woofers are used for putting out bass frequencies, and components are used for the treble frequencies. so are 6x9\'s designed to put out the mid\'s? or am i missing something.

Re: 6X9's
no no no no !!! components are for seting sound the stage by the use of seprate speakers either 2 way (mid and tweeter) or 3 way (bass, mid and tweeter) by moving each speaker location you can change the sound of you system and are mainly used in the front of the car
6 x 9\'s and coaxials are both full range other words thay play all the frequences
Subs play the most lower frequences not covered by the comps/coaxails/6x9\'s but aqlot depends on the box design to how low the sub drops
If you run 6x9\'s in the rear shelf aswell as a sub in the boot. the sub will cancle out the lower frequnces (bass) of the 6x9\'s and will make the system sound flat
Ideal system would be comps in the front (amped) sub in the boot and coaxails in the rear for a bit of rear fill but you want to keep the sound up front so fade the rear speakers out.by using this sort of setup you get a much cleaner sound
I could go into more detail but it does get complex and technical

Re: 6X9's
If you like i will go into the technical aspects of it then i will do subwoofer and box design and the pros and cons of each type of box and a bit of soundstaging and audio dynamics. then pros and cons of speaker location and to top it of a bit of power distrubtion and how to work out you power figures
i have been playing with audio for tooo many years (prob when you was play marbles in in school play ground/smoking behind the bike sheds). nah i am not that old...... really

Re: 6X9's
nice one. so your prob\'s best one to ask then.
do outputs from, an amp need to match those of the speakers there driving? so if my amp\'ll put out 90 watts per channel, what sort of power rating speakers would be best?

Re: 6X9's
normally I get an amp to match or just slightly over as you can always turn the gain down a bit so you dont pop the speakers always look at the rms ratings when lookin at power figures
with new speakers i tend to run them in for 15-20 hours at a lower power (gain set no more than a 1/4 to just under a 1/2) doing this your speakers will last and 9 times out of 10 sound better

Re: 6X9's
95% of coaxail/comps/6x9\'s are 4 ohm .subs are different tho you can get them 2,4,8 and even 16 ohm and it depends on how many voice coils it has and also which way you wire the sub(s) to what ohm rating you will get. idealy you want to run a sub off a monoblock amp most of them are go down to 2 ohm unless your spending silly money you wont get a 1 ohm stable amp

Re: 6X9's
cheers guys. the point behind this is i\'m looking at upgrading the sound system in my corsa.
i\'m looking at putting an amp in to run the speakers in the front off, then upgrading them (money allowing) to components, and then putting a set of 6x9\'s in the back and possibly a sub in the boot.
for the amp for the speakers i\'ve been looking at either the sony xm or this alpine one. jus wondering which one would be better for amping the stock speakers, in reference to the above.

Re: 6X9's
trust me you dont want spend your money on 6x9\'s put towards a better set of comps !!!!. pony (sorry sony) are shocking all show and no go. Go for the alpine amp if youve got a bit more cash go for the alpine MRP-F250
Theres no point in amping the standard speakers as there only rated to 20w rms and your prob kill them
look at getting some sound deading for the front doors its not cheap but worth ever penny imho

Re: 6X9's
lol had sony speakers in my old corsa, the were oright for the price, i personally wouldn\'t spend a great deal on 6x9s, because they just attract attention from pikey\'s and the like. think im going for a decent set of comps for the c, when i get some more cash saved lol.

Re: 6X9's
ok, as recomended i\'m looking at upgrading my speakers from the stock vauxhall ones. i\'m currently looking at these pioneer comps\', and i\'m just wondering whether i\'d be better off with these, or a cheaper set with a crossover? if it makes any difference my car\'s a 97 corsa merit.
btw, as far as budgets go i don\'t really want to spend much more on the speakers (how ever if i anyone can recomend vetter ones for a lil\' more cash i may be tempted) as i\'m looking at a sound insulation kit and any tools/wiring needed aswell. cheers
