Carbs

Post by Tam Dang »

Hello everyone, started to fall in love with me corsa, but thing is, it is a 1.4 8v (C14NZ) and my mates are pissing on me. So, i am thinking of fitting carbs to it, but have next to no knowledge on these, i dont mind getting me hands dirty, and brother in law is mechanic so could get some help, but i want to know how much will it cost all in, where do i go for parts, and what power am i looking at, also just some advantages/disadvantages of running carbs. I have a bit of money to spend, as was suposed to get a 3.5k focus, but ended up getting a £150 corsa, most of ma money is spent though but still have a bit, and am well excited about thinking of carbs at the mo, might go off for a wal¬k in a mo lol. Anyway, any help pointing me in the right direction for parts and info will be much appreciated.

Right you can get a set of carbs off ebay thats where i got mine you will also need the inlet manifold i got all the lot for £115
which is not too bad let me find a pic for you!! The carbs are blue things on the back of the engine

Power gains you are looking at about 15 to 20bhp depending on how the carbs are set up (disadvantages) Carbs are all mechaical so i would of thought they would break down abit more that injection but parts are cheaper!!
If you go to the link below there is a vid of my engine running on carbs only for a few seconds as there is no oil or water in the engine.

You dont wont throttle bodies they will cost you an arm and a leg. The jets allow a serton amount of fuel through bigger the jet the more fuel go\'s in! you dont wont multipoint injection unless you are prepared to change all the wiring loom ecu and a few sencors on the engine more work than it\'s worth i was going have multipoint injection off the sri but i couldn\'t find a scrapers that had it well i found 1 but they wonted a arm and a leg for it all £150!! So i told them where to get off.

hahaha, that constant jet of fuel thing is why they use so much petrol? will it go bang and spit flames then, i am really wanting them, and the way you described it, it sounds like a very Tam thing to do having a system that just pours petrol into the engine lol. might still do it, who has done it, and how many mpg you get in town?

doesnt look like i will be doing carbs then lol, thanks for putting me off them. jokin, but that thing about SRi injectors, or the 1.6 SPi injectors seem nice, what power gains will i get from 1.6 injectors, and what will i need to change, ECU, loom? I think the 8v SRi is something like 82hp?

You need to compare engines really to see what sensors the sri has and what yours has as you might find the sri has a crank sensor and yours doesn\'t and if yours doesn,t have one that means you will need one and if you dont put one on the ECU will no and put the light on the dash you might be better off doing an engine swap!!

Ok, i know it seems like i aint getting anything, but i am now, what cars/year do i need for the C16NZ injectors, and is it just that little thing that squirts petrol under the black plastic off the air filter, or do i need the round bit that move when i press throttle (throttle body?) sorry for the not noob style but i dont have anyone that can tell me about engines around here, so i just learn by playing. ;)

The little thing under the black plastic is a single point injection unit to look at it looks like a carb! If you wont multipoint injection all that will have to come off including the manifold. Dont forget playing can be costly.......
