Hi first of all i am new to the club so any help will be greatly appreciated. This is my first corsa, i picked it up on friday and the fisrt thing i noticed is how tappety the engine was. The first thing i did was replaced the oil with semi synthetic 10w 40 and replaced the oil filter. I was hoping from experience with other cars (non vauxhall) that this would cure the problem. It hasn't, from cold the engine is quite noisy but it only sounds as though its one tappet. Once warmed up it does quiet down but you can still hear it tapping from inside the car. The noise is mainly between 2000rpm and 3500rpm. Cruising at 65mph on the motorway seems to settle it down and the tapping can't be heard. I know the obvious answer is to whip the lifters out and leave them in a bucket of petrol over night but i believe its quite a job requiring special tools. Any suggestions of sorting this out without taking the lifter out? I heard you can get some sort of Hydraulic tappet treatment from halfords? Anyone tried it? One thing i will say is that the oil that was in it was really manky, well past its best i just hope it hasn't done damage! Any help would be greatly appreciated
THANKS in advanced!!
