being heavy with right foot? in my 1 litre 12v if i dont give it to much poke i can get bout 45 mpg if i give it poke it goes down to about 30mpg, either that or u could be runnin rich on fuel, blowing exhaust? not enough pressure in ur tyres, theres so many things that can result in not doin much mpg could be a combo of some of them tobrig it so low.

could be alot of things
driver habbits...
maybe misfiring or clogged dirty airfilters
and yes underinflated tyres can contribute to poor fuel consumption
is ur car heavly modified (ie £1200 and 1200lbs) of ice and subs will make ur car alot heavier and thrus affect ur MPG

failing that you could always buy a diesel lol
hope this is helpfull pal

in the past, i have bought STP petrol cleaner and what that does (costs about a fiver and you put the whole bottle into a full fuel tank), is it burns at a slightly higher temp than the petrol would, thus cleaning the fuel filter etc, and the injectors, if its a fuel injection system that is, my gf, put it in her golf that can do around 350 miles to a full tank, with the stp added, she can get about 380 now, hope this helps a bit.

and i've put half a bottle of STP injection cleaner in today and done 50 miles to run it in so we'll see what happens :)

i have a corsa 1.4 16v sport and i was getting less that 23mpg, it was thowing out more emmisions than a 2.0l Cosworth,
i replaced my lamba sensor, and ECU water temp sensor,(because when the car is started from cold it tell's the ecu to throw more petrol in, like an automatic choke, as this was not working it was constantly on, thus using lots of petrol and my money) and plugs, air filter element, and oil change
Done all myself for less than £100. running perfect 35-40mpg
Hope this helps

Thanks matey i've changed everything you've said apart from the ECU water temp sensor. It's gettin better MPG (haven't worked it out yet) but you can tell.

I've used the full bottle of STP injection cleaner and thats made a hell of alot of difference!! you can feel the car running better and now theres no shiit coming out of the exahust.

Is it easy to change the ECU water temp sensor because i think i'll look into it??

Thanks again
